In addition to services, Urban Company has a product brand, Native, which operates in various categories like water purifiers and smart locks. It’s disrupting the traditional market and is already market leader in various segments where it’s present.

Urban Company started as UrbanClap in November 2014, when its founders, Abhiraj, Raghav, and Varun, realised that the home services industry was predominantly unorganized, fragmented, and offline. Customers found it challenging to avail quality services conveniently, and service professionals were struggling to make ends meet, having to rely upon several middlemen, contractors, and local aggregators.

The founders felt that the industry was ripe for disruption, and launched Urban Company, with three key principles in mind -

About the Role & Team

Join the Native Engineering team, focused on building the tech stack for:

- Next-generation smart products for water purifiers, smart locks and more
- In-house e-commerce, including cataloging, inventory, delivery and fulfilment
- Elevating customer experience by leveraging LLMs to automate and enhance customer support

Technology Stack

You will get hands-on exposure to:

- Backend: Node.js (primary), TypeScript
- Databases: MongoDB, MySQL
- Caching: Redis
- Analytics: Snowflake, Superset
- Observability: Prometheus, Grafana
- Architecture: Microservices, event-driven systems
- Frontend (optional exposure): Micro-frontends, React Native

What We’re Looking For

- 2-4 years of backend engineering experience.
- Strong coding skills in any programming language - C , Java, Python, JavaScript, Go.
- Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system design fundamentals.
- Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases (MySQL, MongoDB).
- Understanding of distributed systems and microservice architecture.
- Familiarity with message queues/event-driven systems is a plus.
- Knowledge of Frontend development is a plus.
- Strong ownership mindset and ability to drive problems end-to-end.
- High attention to correctness - especially important in financial systems.
