Job Purpose To lead the Quality Control function for the house wire manufacturing plant and ensure consistent product quality, process compliance, customer satisfaction, and adherence to applicable BIS/Indian Standards. The role will oversee incoming material, in-process, final testing, laboratory operations, quality systems, and continuous improvement.

For PVC household wiring, key quality parameters include conductor resistance, insulation thickness, insulation resistance, high-voltage/spark testing, mechanical properties, dimensions, and applicable fire-performance tests.

Key Responsibilities

- Quality Control & Assurance

- Lead overall QC activities across the wire manufacturing plant.
- Establish and monitor quality standards for raw materials, processes, and finished products.
- Ensure compliance with approved specifications, drawings, SOPs, control plans, and customer requirements.
- Monitor quality at all stages from wire drawing annealing bunching/stranding PVC extrusion printing coiling packing & dispatch.
- Identify quality deviations and ensure timely corrective and preventive actions.

2. Incoming Material Quality
- Control quality of copper, PVC compounds, additives, master batches and other incoming materials.
- Establish inspection standards and sampling plans for incoming materials.
- Coordinate with Purchase and suppliers for quality-related issues and supplier improvement.
- Monitor supplier rejection, quality trends and supplier CAPA.

3. In-Process & Final Inspection
- Monitor conductor diameter, resistance, elongation, tensile strength and other applicable parameters.
- Ensure insulation thickness, overall diameter, colour, surface finish and printing/marking are within specification.
- Monitor extrusion process parameters and identify defects such as pinholes, eccentricity,



poor surface finish and insulation variation.
- Ensure final cable testing and release is completed before dispatch.

4. Laboratory & Testing
- Manage the plant quality laboratory and ensure availability of required testing facilities.
- Ensure calibration and periodic verification of testing equipment.
- Maintain test reports, inspection records and calibration records.
- Ensure testing is carried out as per applicable BIS/IS requirements and approved test procedures. BIS documentation specifically requires suitable laboratory facilities, calibrated instruments and maintenance of test/inspection records.

5. BIS / Compliance
- Ensure product compliance with applicable BIS and Indian Standards, particularly IS 694 for PVC insulated cables/wires.
- Coordinate BIS inspections, audits, testing and documentation.
- Maintain all records required for BIS certification and plant quality compliance.
- Ensure appropriate product identification, marking and traceability.

6. Quality Improvement
- Analyse rejection, rework, customer complaints and process deviations.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis, CAPA, 5 Why, Fishbone and Pareto analysis.
- Drive reduction in rejection, rework, scrap and customer complaints.
- Implement SPC, process capability and other statistical quality-control techniques where applicable.

7. Customer Complaints
- Lead investigation of customer complaints and field quality issues.
- Coordinate with Production, R&D;, Sales and Service teams for complaint resolution.
- Prepare 8D/CAPA reports and ensure closure within agreed timelines.




- Track recurring complaints and implement preventive measures.

8. Team Management
- Lead and develop the QC team, including QC Engineers, Inspectors, Lab Technicians and Supervisors.
- Allocate responsibilities and monitor shift-wise quality activities.
- Conduct training on quality standards, testing procedures, inspection methods and safety.
- Build a strong quality culture across the plant.

9. MIS & Reporting
- Prepare daily/weekly/monthly quality reports.
- Monitor key quality KPIs such as:
- Internal rejection %
- Rework %
- Scrap %
- Customer complaints
- Supplier rejection
- First Pass Yield
- Cost of Poor Quality
- CAPA closure
- Process deviations

- Present quality performance and improvement plans to Plant Management.

Key Technical Knowledge
- House wire / PVC insulated wire and cable manufacturing.
- Copper wire drawing and annealing.
- Bunching/stranding process.
- PVC extrusion and insulation.
- Electrical and mechanical testing of wires/cables.
- IS 694, IS 8130, IS 10810 and relevant applicable standards.
- BIS certification and inspection requirements.
- Quality tools: 7 QC Tools, SPC, MSA, FMEA, CAPA, 8D, RCA, Kaizen.
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment and calibration systems.

BIS references for IS 694 include tests such as conductor resistance, tensile strength, diameter, insulation thickness, high-voltage testing and other applicable cable tests.

Qualification

- B.E./B.Tech/Diploma in Electrical / Electronics / Mechanical / Production / Metallurgy or related engineering discipline.
- Additional qualification in Quality Management will be an advantage.

Experience
- 1015+ years of relevant experience in Quality Control/Quality Assurance.
- Solid preference for candidates from wire, cable, electrical or conductor manufacturing industries.
- Minimum 35 years of experience in a Quality leadership role.
- Experience in setting up/strengthening quality systems in a manufacturing plant will be preferred.
