Role Description Department of Education The Department of Education at the University of York is an open and friendly department, committed to excellence in research and teaching. Our research groups have a national and international reputation for the quality of their work, and the THE (2021) ranking of the Research Excellence Framework results placed the department 5th in the UK for research. Alongside sociologists, linguists and colleagues with strong backgrounds in educational practice, the departmental academic community includes many psychologists who research and teach about educationally relevant psychology.

Main purpose of the role The Department of Education at the University of York is internationally recognised for its high quality teaching and research. The department offers very popular BSc and MSc programmes in Psychology in Education, both of which are accredited by the British Psychological Society. The Psychology in Education technician will support these and similar programmes by providing psychology-related technical support to staff and students.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and enhance the support provided to the programmes by assisting in the design of practical activities for teaching as well as supporting dissertation students. The postholder will also be responsible for overseeing and managing research equipment and facilities, supporting student and staff research activities, and supporting the development and maintenance of our Psychology in Education laboratories.

- To assist and support staff and students with technical support for learning and research in the Department of Education’s Psychology programmes.
- To assist in providing technical support to the Department’s Psychology academic staff.
- To assist in the development and maintenance of the Department’s Psychology laboratories and equipment and provide technical support for their use.
- To support the development and delivery of teaching and research activities.
- To support the development of systems to maintain records of laboratory and equipment bookings, and equipment maintenance.
