IT for Change (ITfC) is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to end digital inequality and advance just, equitable, and people-led digital futures for the Global South.

ITfC works through three strategic program areas: Gender and Digital Empowerment, Public EdTech, and Just Digital Governance. Across these program areas, ITfC builds community-owned digital models, shapes public discourse on digital rights, and strengthens the capacity of public institutions and civil society to design more accountable, inclusive digital ecosystems.

In the Public EdTech program area, we focus on designing and implementing inclusive digital pedagogies, promoting public software, and partnering with government institutions to strengthen the digital capacity of public education systems. Project Assistant - Technology

Role

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic technology professional to join our team. This role involves providing organization-wide technical support, supporting the implementation of education technology (EdTech) programmes, conducting technology training, managing digital resources, and promoting the use of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) across organizational and field projects.

The ideal candidate should enjoy working with technology and be interested in supporting teachers, schools, educational institutions, and project teams in effectively integrating technology into teaching, learning, and collaboration. Candidates with an interest in STEM education and hands-on learning will have opportunities to support STEM-related workshops and educational initiatives.



This role combines technical support, field implementation, capacity building, and continuous learning in a collaborative NGO environment.

As a member of the Technology Team, you will work closely with internal staff, educators, government institutions, and partner organizations to strengthen the meaningful use of technology in education.

Responsibilities

- Provide organization-wide technical support to staff, including troubleshooting hardware, software, networking, and system-related issues.
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot office IT infrastructure including internet connectivity, LAN/WAN networks, printers, projectors, smart TVs, conferencing systems, and workshop equipment.
- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux (Ubuntu) and other operating systems, along with Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) applications used across organizational and field projects.
- Provide technical support during teacher training programmes, workshops, conferences, webinars, and other educational events.
- Visit schools, colleges, and partner institutions to support the implementation of EdTech programmes, including STEM education initiatives, through hardware/software setup, troubleshooting, classroom support, and user assistance.
- Conduct and support technology orientation and training programmes for teachers, teacher educators, staff members, and partner organizations on the effective use of FOSS and other digital tools.
- Support project teams in creating, testing, and maintaining technology-enabled educational resources using appropriate digital tools.
- Support digital collaboration platforms, organizational websites, and learning management systems such as Moodle, WordPress, Drupal, and MediaWiki.




- Work closely with programme teams during field visits and educational initiatives, providing technical and logistical support wherever required.

Desired Qualifications Preferably B.Sc., BCA, BE/B.Tech, Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, or related disciplines.

Note: Candidates with a B.Ed. (Mathematics/Science) along with valuable technical aptitude, or graduates from other disciplines with relevant hands-on technical skills and a genuine interest in educational technology and STEM education, are also encouraged to apply.

Desired Experience and Skills

- Candidates with 0–1 year of experience in technical support, ICT support, system administration, Linux administration, or related roles will be preferred.
- Strong ability to independently diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network-related issues.
- Interest in using technology to support education, teacher professional development, STEM learning, and social sector initiatives.
- Willingness to learn new technologies, educational tools, and digital pedagogies.
- Willingness to travel across Karnataka and other parts of India for workshops, school visits, and programme implementation.
- Working knowledge of Linux operating systems (Ubuntu/Debian-based) and familiarity with Free and Open Source Software (FOSS).
- Good understanding of computer hardware, networking concepts, internet configuration, peripheral device management, and system maintenance.
- Interest in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting operating systems and software applications.
- Fluency in English and Kannada (reading, writing, and speaking) is required. Basic spoken Hindi is desirable.

Remuneration Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will not be a constraint for the right candidate.
