Job Purpose
Responsible for production planning, material planning, inventory control, and coordination with Production, Stores/Warehouse, Purchase, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and other relevant departments to ensure timely availability of materials and smooth execution of the production plan while maintaining optimal inventory levels and compliance with pharmaceutical industry requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production Planning
- Prepare and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly production plans based on customer requirements, sales forecasts, inventory levels, and production capacity.
- Coordinate with Production to ensure timely execution of manufacturing plans.
- Monitor production progress against the planned schedule and identify delays, bottlenecks, and capacity constraints.
- Reschedule production plans based on material availability, machine capacity, manpower, and business priorities.
- Track plan vs. actual production and prepare regular MIS reports.
2. Material Planning & Inventory Control
- Prepare material requirements based on production plans and approved BOMs.
- Ensure timely availability of APIs, excipients, packaging materials, and other production-related materials.
- Monitor inventory levels, minimum/maximum stock, safety stock, and reorder requirements.
- Coordinate with Purchase and Stores/Warehouse for timely receipt and availability of materials.
- Identify slow-moving, non-moving, excess, shortage, and near-expiry inventory.
- Minimize stock-outs, excess inventory, and production interruptions.
3. Stores / Warehouse Coordination
- Coordinate closely with Stores/Warehouse for material receipt, inspection, storage, issuance, and reconciliation.
- Ensure materials are available as per production requirements and approved material status.
- Monitor material issuance against production orders and BOM requirements.
- Follow FIFO/FEFO principles as applicable, particularly for pharmaceutical materials with expiry considerations.
- Coordinate material reconciliation and investigate shortages, excess consumption, and discrepancies.
- Maintain awareness of storage conditions, material status, quarantine/released/rejected areas, and proper material segregation.
4. ERP / Documentation
- Maintain production planning, material planning, inventory, and related records in ERP/MRP systems.
- Generate production orders, material requirement reports, shortage reports, inventory reports, and other PPIC MIS.
- Ensure accurate master data, BOMs, inventory records, and planning parameters.
- Maintain proper documentation in accordance with company procedures and GMP requirements.
5. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate with Production, QA, QC, Stores/Warehouse, Purchase, Engineering, Finance, and Sales/Planning teams.
- Communicate material shortages and production constraints to concerned departments.
- Participate in daily/weekly planning meetings and provide updates on production and material status.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to planning, inventory reduction, productivity, and supply-chain efficiency.
Pharmaceutical Industry Compliance
- Ensure PPIC activities are performed in accordance with applicable GMP, GDP, SOPs, and company quality systems.
- Maintain proper traceability and documentation of materials and production planning activities.
- Support internal and external audits by providing required planning, inventory, and material-related records.
- Ensure adherence to change control, deviation, CAPA, and other applicable quality-system requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, Engineering, Science, Supply Chain, Operations, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in PPIC/Production Planning in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry.
- Practical knowledge of Stores/Warehouse and inventory management.
- Experience working with ERP/MRP systems; knowledge of SAP or similar ERP is preferred.
- Good knowledge of production planning, material planning, inventory control, BOM, MRP, and production scheduling.
- Understanding of pharmaceutical GMP and documentation practices is preferred.
- Positive analytical, coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and preparation of MIS reports.
