Plant HR Manager

Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced and agile Plant HR Manager to lead the Human Resources function at our diamond manufacturing facility in Coimbatore. The ideal candidate will play a key role in building and sustaining a performance-driven, people-first culture at the shop floor and plant level.
This is a high-impact role that combines strategic HR planning with strong operational execution, covering all aspects of employee lifecycle management, talent acquisition, engagement, training, compliance, performance management, and industrial relationswhile ensuring alignment with business objectives and our organizational values.
Key Responsibilities
1. HR Strategy & Workforce Planning
Lead the end-to-end HR function for the plant, managing a large and diverse workforce of operators, supervisors, technicians, and support staff. Partner with plant leadership to forecast manpower needs and build effective staffing plans across shifts and cells.
Align HR strategies with production and operational KPIs; support productivity, efficiency, and cost goals
1. Recruitment & Onboarding
Lead recruitment of shop-floor operators, technicians, and mid-level staff through campus, lateral, and local hiring channels. Oversee seamless onboarding and induction programs in coordination with the Learning & Development (L&D;) team.
Drive diversity hiring and local talent development as per company values and community engagement goals.
1. Employee Engagement & Culture
Design and execute plant-level employee engagement programs (Suggestion schemes, recognition platforms, etc.). Champion employee well-being initiatives (health checkups, financial awareness,
safety culture) and support grievance redressal mechanisms.
Foster a culture of discipline, respect, continuous learning, and pride in craftsmanship.
1. Learning & Development
Collaborate closely with the L&D; Specialist and Head Trainer to ensure all employees receive periodic skill and behavioral training as per their role and station. Own the training compliance and skill matrix for all plant functions, ensuring upskilling across departments.
Support leadership development initiatives for supervisors and line in-charges through coaching and development planning.
1. Performance Management & Career Pathing
Anchor the plant-level performance appraisal process, goal-setting, and talent reviews. Identify high-potential employees and build development plans for their growth.
Guide managers on performance improvement plans, disciplinary procedures, and team effectiveness.
1. Compliance, Payroll & HR Operations
Ensure full compliance with Labor Laws, Factories Act, and internal audit standards. Oversee accurate and timely execution of payroll, attendance, and shift planning (in coordination with operations).
Maintain updated records, contracts, and statutory documentation for all plant employees.
1. Industrial Relations & Stakeholder Management
Maintain harmonious employee relations, engaging with contractors, supervisors,
and employee representatives proactively. Resolve disputes professionally and in alignment with company policy and legal frameworks.
Liaise with government bodies and ensure all statutory returns and inspections are handled effectively.
1. Facilities Management & Infrastructure
Oversee facility operations including maintenance, utilities, cleanliness, safety equipment, and workspace adequacy Coordinate with statutory authorities on facility-related compliance (licensing, inspections, infrastructure standards)
Manage contractor relationships and vendor compliance for facility services
Ensure that facility conditions support safe, healthy operations and reinforce safety and care culture
Direct management of the Plant Administrator, clear performance expectations and one-on-ones
Escalation points for facility issues and contractor disputes
Strategic oversight beyond day-to-day operations
Management and mentoring of Plant Administrator
Review and approval of facility budgets and vendor arrangements
Regular facility audits and compliance oversight
Own Admin & Facility cost budgeting, tracking expenditure against approved budgets and driving cost optimization across facility operations and administrative spend
Qualifications & Experience
Postgraduate Degree in Human Resource Management
12 - 18 years of core HR experience, with at least 5+ years in a manufacturing or process-intensive plant environment.
Deep knowledge of labor law practices, shop floor dynamics, and HR operations.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build trust across levels from operators to senior leadership.
Fluent in English and Tamil (mandatory); Hindi is a plus.
