Job Purpose To provide clinical and administrative support to consultants in the assessment, management, monitoring, and follow-up of patients with medical, respiratory, and sleep-related disorders while ensuring high standards of patient care, documentation, safety, and coordination.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Patient Care
- Assist consultants in outpatient and inpatient patient care.
- Obtain and document detailed patient history, presenting complaints, and relevant clinical information.
- Perform basic clinical assessments and record vital signs, including BP, pulse, temperature, respiratory rate, and SpO.
- Assist in physical examination and clinical evaluation under the supervision of the treating physician.
- Monitor patients' clinical condition and promptly communicate any deterioration or significant findings to the consultant.
- Assist in developing and implementing patient care plans as directed by the consultant.
- Coordinate patient follow-ups and continuity of care.
1. Internal Medicine Support
- Assist in the evaluation and management of common medical conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, infections, metabolic disorders, and other chronic diseases.
- Review relevant laboratory and diagnostic reports under physician supervision.
- Maintain accurate and updated patient records.
- Assist in medication reconciliation and communicate medication-related concerns to the treating physician.
1. Respiratory & Pulmonary Care
- Support consultants in the evaluation and management of patients with respiratory disorders such as:
- Asthma
- COPD
- Pneumonia
- Respiratory infections
- Interstitial lung disease
- Pleural disorders
- Chronic cough and breathlessness
- Other pulmonary conditions
- Monitor respiratory parameters, including SpO and respiratory rate.
- Assist in oxygen therapy and respiratory-care protocols as directed.
- Assist in interpretation and documentation of relevant investigations under physician supervision, including chest X-rays, CT scans, pulmonary function tests, and blood investigations.
- Support patient education regarding inhaler technique, respiratory medications, lifestyle modification, and disease management.
1. Sleep Medicine Support
- Assist in assessment of patients with suspected sleep disorders, including:
- Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)
- Insomnia
- Excessive daytime sleepiness
- Sleep-related breathing disorders
- Snoring and other sleep-related complaints
- Assist in coordinating sleep studies and related investigations.
- Support patient preparation for polysomnography and other sleep investigations.
- Assist in CPAP/BiPAP education, compliance monitoring, and follow-up as directed by the consultant.
- Maintain appropriate sleep-study and follow-up documentation.
1. Diagnostic & Clinical Coordination
- Coordinate investigations, procedures, referrals, and follow-up appointments.
- Review investigation reports and flag abnormal or clinically significant findings to the consultant.
- Maintain proper documentation in EMR/HIS and patient files.
- Coordinate with nursing, laboratory, radiology, respiratory therapy, sleep lab, and other clinical departments.
1. Patient & Family Communication
- Explain investigations, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions within the scope of the role and under physician guidance.
- Provide patient education on medication adherence, lifestyle modification, respiratory care, sleep hygiene, and disease prevention.
- Address routine patient queries and escalate clinical concerns to the treating physician.
- Maintain skilled, empathetic, and patient-centric communication.
1. Emergency & Inpatient Support
- Assist the medical team during urgent clinical situations.
- Recognize and promptly escalate signs of clinical deterioration.
- Support emergency response and resuscitation procedures within the scope of training and institutional protocols.
- Assist in inpatient rounds and coordination of patient management.
Preferred candidate profile
- Bachelor's/Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies or equivalent recognized qualification.
- Relevant clinical experience in Internal Medicine, Pulmonology, Respiratory Medicine, or Sleep Medicine is preferred.
