Position: NICU Nurse

Department: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Reports To: Nursing In-charge / Nursing Superintendent

Job Purpose To provide protected, compassionate, and specialized nursing care to neonates requiring intensive or specialized medical attention, while ensuring adherence to clinical protocols, infection-control practices, patient-safety standards, and hospital policies.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical & Patient Care

- Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill and premature neonates.
- Monitor and accurately record vital signs, oxygen saturation, blood glucose, intake/output, weight, and other clinical parameters.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, antibiotics, blood products, and other treatments as prescribed.
- Assist doctors during procedures, resuscitation, and emergency interventions.
- Monitor neonates on ventilators, CPAP, phototherapy, infusion pumps, and other NICU equipment as per competency.
- Identify and promptly report any deterioration or abnormal clinical findings.
- Maintain proper positioning, thermoregulation, feeding, and developmental care of neonates.
- Support breastfeeding, expressed breast milk feeding, and tube feeding as prescribed.

2. Infection Prevention & Patient Safety

- Strictly follow hand hygiene, aseptic techniques, and NICU infection-control protocols.
- Ensure proper disinfection and sterilization of equipment and patient-care areas.
- Follow correct patient identification, medication administration, specimen collection, and documentation procedures.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized NICU environment.

3. Documentation & Coordination

- Maintain accurate and timely nursing records, medication charts, observation charts, and other clinical documentation.
- Ensure proper handover of patient information during shift changes.
- Coordinate effectively with neonatologists, pediatricians, technicians, lactation support,



and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and family information.

4. Parent & Family Support

- Communicate respectfully and empathetically with parents/attendants.
- Educate parents regarding neonatal care, feeding, hygiene, and discharge instructions as directed by the clinical team.
- Provide emotional support to families while maintaining professional boundaries.

5. Equipment & Emergency Readiness

- Ensure readiness and functionality of emergency equipment, crash cart, oxygen, suction, ventilators, and other NICU equipment.
- Report equipment malfunction or shortage immediately.
- Participate in neonatal emergency response and resuscitation as required.

6. Professional Responsibilities

- Follow hospital policies, nursing standards, NABH requirements, and departmental SOPs.
- Participate in in-service training, competency assessments, audits, quality-improvement initiatives, and continuing nursing education.
- Maintain professional conduct, punctuality, discipline, and teamwork.
- Perform other duties related to NICU nursing as assigned by the Nursing In-charge/Senior Management.

Qualifications & Experience
- B.Sc. Nursing / GNM from a recognized institution.
- Valid nursing registration with the applicable State Nursing Council.
- Experience in NICU/neonatal nursing preferred; candidates with relevant critical-care/pediatric experience may also be considered.
- Knowledge of neonatal resuscitation and critical-care practices preferred.

Pay: ₹250,000.00 - ₹325,000.00 per year
