Role Overview:
The L2 Network Engineer is responsible for handling escalated network incidents, performing advanced troubleshooting, configuring network devices, and supporting L1 engineers. They work with switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, and other network technologies to ensure reliable and secure operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot and resolve L2-level network incidents escalated from L1 support.
- Configure, manage, and maintain routers, switches, and firewalls from vendors like Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, and Palo Alto.
- Perform root cause analysis for recurring issues and recommend permanent fixes.
- Monitor network performance and respond to alerts from monitoring tools.
- Implement approved changes in the network environment, including upgrades and patching.
- Support VPN configuration, VLAN setup, and routing protocol management (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP).
- Ensure compliance with security standards and IT policies.
- Maintain accurate documentation for configurations, topology diagrams, and procedures.
- Collaborate with other IT teams for cross-functional troubleshooting and projects.
Skills & Qualifications:
- 3–5 years of experience in network operations/support.
- Robust knowledge of networking protocols: TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, VLANs, STP, HSRP, etc.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco or Juniper network devices.
- Familiarity with firewall policies and VPN technologies.
- Ability to work in 24x7 shift rotation or on-call schedules.
- Good communication and documentation skills.
Preferred:
- CCNA/CCNP certification (or equivalent).
- Experience in ITIL-based environments.
- Knowledge of SD-WAN, load balancers, and wireless networks.
