About the Role
We are looking for a Mutual Fund Operations Associate who can take ownership of day-to-day client servicing, investment execution, portfolio reporting and mutual fund operations.
The person will work closely with the founders, interact directly with clients, coordinate with AMCs and platforms, and help build stronger operating processes as LightPillar grows.
The role would suit someone who already understands the mutual fund ecosystem and is comfortable combining operations, client servicing, reporting and execution.
- Prepare personalised portfolio updates and reports for mutual fund clients.
- Assist in reviewing existing client portfolios and presenting the information in a clear and structured manner.
- Prepare proposals for fresh investments for both new and existing clients, based on LightPillar's investment methodology and an understanding of the client's requirements.
- Work closely with the founders on portfolio-related analysis and client communication.
2. Investment Execution & Client Handholding
- LightPillar uses multiple transaction platforms depending on what works best for each client.
- The associate will be expected to:
- Develop a detailed working knowledge of each investment and transaction platform used by the firm.
- Understand the complete transaction journey across purchases, redemptions, switches, SIPs and other mutual fund transactions.
- Coordinate with clients through the investment execution process.
- Take ownership of ensuring that every transaction is completed smoothly and accurately.
- Identify and resolve execution-related issues with platforms, AMCs or other intermediaries.
3. Mutual Fund Operations
- Generate ad-hoc client, portfolio and business reports from back-office systems.
- Handle client queries and operational requests directly.
- Liaise with AMC Relationship Managers for:
- Client and transaction-related queries.
- Operational issues and portfolio discrepancies.
- Statements, reports and other information.
- ARN transfers.
- Manual KYC cases.
- Investments requiring physical or manual documentation.
- Other AMC-specific operational requirements.
- Coordinate documentation and follow-ups until cases are fully resolved.
4. Business Operations & Process Management
- Help establish and run systems and processes to review and improve business performance, including:
- GST invoice creation and uploading.
- Brokerage and commission accuracy checks.
- Reconciliation and identification of revenue leakages or discrepancies.
- Preparation of management information and business analysis.
- Ad-hoc analysis aimed at improving revenues, operational efficiency and profitability.
- Building repeatable processes and trackers for important operational activities.
5. External Representation
- Occasionally represent LightPillar and/or the founders at relevant networking forums, industry events and business meetings.
- Be comfortable interacting professionally with clients, partners, AMC representatives and other stakeholders.
Must-Have Skills & Experience 2–3 years of relevant work experience in one or more of the following:
- Mutual fund distribution.
- Mutual fund operations.
- Asset Management Company (AMC) operations.
- Registrar and Transfer Agent (RTA) operations.
Good command of spoken and written English. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
Comfortable working with data, reports and reconciliations.
Basic working knowledge of AI tools such as ChatGPT and Claude.
Valuable understanding of mutual fund transactions, documentation and operational processes.
Ability to interact confidently and professionally with clients.
Robust attention to detail and willingness to take ownership of tasks through completion.
