About the Role
We are looking for a Textile Fabric Merchandiser to manage fabric development, sourcing, costing, sampling, production follow-up, quality coordination, and timely delivery of fabrics as per TIGC's product and quality requirements.
The ideal candidate should have good knowledge of textile fabrics, garment manufacturing, fabric specifications, costing, vendor management, and production processes.
Key Responsibilities1. Fabric Sourcing & Development
- Source fabrics based on product requirements, designs, quality, price, and delivery timelines.
- Identify and develop new fabric suppliers, mills, and vendors.
- Coordinate with the design and product teams to understand fabric requirements.
- Develop fabrics according to required composition, GSM, construction, finish, colour, and hand feel.
- Arrange fabric swatches, lab dips, strike-offs, and samples for approval.
1. Fabric Costing & Negotiation
- Prepare fabric costing based on specifications, consumption, quantity, and market rates.
- Negotiate prices, MOQ, lead time, payment terms, and other commercial terms with suppliers.
- Monitor fabric prices and market trends to ensure competitive sourcing.
- Maintain costing and supplier comparison sheets.
1. Sampling & Approvals
- Coordinate fabric sample development with vendors.
- Follow up on lab dips, colour approvals, fabric quality, and sample submissions.
- Ensure approvals are received within the required timelines.
- Maintain proper records of approved and rejected samples.
1. Production Follow-Up
- Place fabric orders with approved vendors and follow up on order execution.
- Monitor production status and ensure timely delivery.
- Coordinate with suppliers regarding production delays, quality issues, and quantity shortages.
- Track fabric orders from development to final delivery.
1. Quality Control
- Ensure fabrics meet approved specifications and quality standards.
- Coordinate with the quality team for fabric inspection and testing.
- Follow up on issues related to GSM, shrinkage, colour fastness, width, construction, defects, and finishing.
- Ensure corrective actions are taken by suppliers when quality issues arise.
1. Vendor Management
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with fabric mills and suppliers.
- Evaluate vendors based on quality, price, capacity, service, and delivery performance.
- Maintain an updated vendor database.
- Support vendor development and onboarding of new suppliers.
1. Coordination
- Work closely with Design, Buying, Product Development, Production, Quality, Sourcing, and Finance teams.
- Coordinate fabric requirements and delivery schedules across departments.
- Communicate any risks related to fabric availability, quality, cost, or delivery timelines.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Timely fabric development and sample submission.
- Fabric order delivery within agreed timelines.
- Cost achievement as per target.
- Fabric quality and rejection rate.
- Vendor performance and reliability.
- Reduction in fabric development lead time.
- Accuracy of fabric specifications and documentation.
- Successful development of new fabrics and suppliers.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of textile fabrics and fabric construction.
- Knowledge of woven and knitted fabrics.
- Understanding of GSM, composition, width, shrinkage, colour fastness, finishes, and fabric testing.
- Good knowledge of fabric costing and negotiations.
- Strong vendor management and follow-up skills.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Good knowledge of MS Excel and basic ERP systems.
- Ability to work under tight timelines and manage multiple developments simultaneously.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor's degree/diploma in Textile Technology, Textile Engineering, Fashion Technology, Fashion Merchandising, Apparel Production, or a related field.
- Relevant experience in textile fabric merchandising/sourcing will be preferred.
Preferred Experience Candidates with experience in apparel brands, textile mills, garment manufacturing, fabric sourcing, buying houses, or fashion retail will be preferred.
Ideal Candidate Profile The candidate should be detail-oriented, commercially aware, proactive, and strong in vendor coordination, with a good understanding of the complete fabric development cycle from requirement → sourcing → sampling → costing → approval → production → quality → delivery.
Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹33,000.00 per month
