Position: Medical Social Worker – Oncology

Department: Medical Social Work / Patient Support Services

Location: SunAct Cancer Institute

Role Overview

We are looking for a compassionate and result-oriented Medical Social Worker to support oncology patients from economically weaker sections by identifying and securing financial assistance through NGOs, charitable trusts, foundations, CSR programs, and other funding organizations.

The role will primarily focus on fundraising and financial assistance coordination for cancer patients, while ensuring proper documentation, follow-up, and communication with patients and funding agencies.

Key Responsibilities

1. Fundraising & Donor Management

· Identify and build relationships with NGOs, charitable trusts, foundations, and CSR organizations that provide financial assistance for cancer treatment.

· Approach potential funding organizations and present eligible patient cases for financial support.

· Develop and maintain a database of NGOs, trusts, foundations, and CSR contacts.

· Regularly follow up with funding organizations regarding submitted patient cases.

· Build long-term relationships with donors and funding partners.

2. Patient Financial Assistance

· Identify financially challenged oncology patients who require treatment support.

· Assess the patient’s financial and social background and determine eligibility for assistance.

· Collect and verify required patient documents such as income proof, medical reports, treatment estimates, ID/address proof, etc.

· Prepare patient case summaries and funding proposals for NGOs/trusts.

· Coordinate with patients, relatives, doctors, billing, finance, and operations teams to obtain required information.

3. Case Documentation & Tracking

· Maintain accurate records of all patients referred for financial assistance.

· Track applications submitted, approvals, sanctioned amounts, received funds, and pending cases.





· Ensure timely submission of documents and follow-ups.

· Maintain MIS and periodic reports on funds raised and patient beneficiaries.

· Ensure transparency and proper documentation of all financial assistance received.

4. Coordination & Communication

· Act as a bridge between patients, hospital teams, NGOs, trusts, and donors.

· Coordinate with the Finance/Billing team regarding receipt and utilization of approved assistance.

· Provide regular updates to management on fundraising activities and outcomes.

· Support patient counselling regarding available financial assistance schemes.

· Empathy and sensitivity while dealing with cancer patients and their families.

· Ability to work independently and achieve fundraising targets.

· Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and email communication.

Preferred Qualification

· MSW / MA in Social Work / Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work.

· Experience in a hospital, oncology centre, NGO, CSR, or fundraising organization will be preferred.

· Experience in medical fundraising or securing financial assistance for patients will be an added advantage.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

· Number of NGOs/trusts/CSR organizations contacted and developed.

· Number of patient cases submitted for financial assistance.

· Amount of funds raised for eligible patients.

· Number/value of approved assistance cases.

· Conversion rate of submitted cases to approved funding.

· Timely closure and documentation of patient assistance cases.

· Development of new funding partnerships.

Pay: ₹40,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
