Position: Medical Laboratory Technician / Lab Technician

Department: Pathology / Laboratory

Location: Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh

Employment Type: Full-Time

Reporting To: Pathologist / Laboratory In-Charge / Medical Superintendent

1. Job Purpose

To perform laboratory investigations accurately and efficiently, maintain proper sample collection and processing procedures, ensure quality and safety standards, and support the medical team in timely reporting of diagnostic results.
1. Educational Qualification

- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) / Diploma in Laboratory Technician from a recognized institution/university.
- Candidates holding B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology (B.Sc. MLT) may also be considered.
- The qualification should be from an institute/university recognized by the competent State/Central authority.
- Valid registration with the U.P. State Medical Faculty (UPSMF) is mandatory.
- Candidates must be able to produce original qualification and registration documents at the time of joining.

UP health-sector recruitment norms for Lab Technician positions specify recognized MLT qualifications along with registration from the U.P. State Medical Faculty.
1. Experience

- 0–2 years of relevant laboratory experience may be considered depending on the position.
- Freshers with valid DMLT qualification and UPSMF registration may also be considered for entry-level positions.
- Experience in a hospital, diagnostic laboratory, pathology laboratory, or clinical laboratory will be preferred.

1. Key Responsibilities

Sample Collection & Processing

- Collect blood, urine, stool, sputum and other clinical specimens as per prescribed procedures.
- Properly identify, label, receive and transport specimens.
- Ensure appropriate storage and handling of samples.




- Reject and report unsuitable or improperly collected samples according to laboratory SOPs.

Laboratory Testing

- Perform routine hematology, biochemistry, clinical pathology and other tests within the candidate's authorized scope of practice.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and analyzers.
- Prepare reagents, controls and stains as per approved SOPs.
- Perform microscopy and manual laboratory procedures where applicable.
- Record test results accurately and promptly.

Quality & Safety

- Follow laboratory SOPs, quality-control procedures and biomedical waste-management protocols.
- Maintain infection-control and biosafety practices.
- Use appropriate PPE and follow precautions for handling potentially infectious specimens.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper functioning of the laboratory.
- Immediately report equipment malfunction, critical values, sample errors or safety incidents to the appropriate supervisor.

Documentation & Reporting

- Maintain laboratory registers, worksheets, QC records and other required documentation.
- Ensure accurate data entry and result documentation.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and laboratory reports.
- Assist in internal quality assurance and accreditation-related documentation where applicable.

1. Required Skills

- Good knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and clinical pathology.
- Knowledge of hematology, biochemistry, microscopy and sample handling.




- Ability to operate laboratory instruments and basic computer systems.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a healthcare team.
- Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality and professional ethics.

1. Statutory / Professional Requirements

- Valid DMLT/B.Sc. MLT qualification.
- Valid U.P. State Medical Faculty (UPSMF) registration.
- Qualification and registration documents must be verifiable.
- Candidate must comply with applicable healthcare, laboratory, infection-control, biomedical-waste and patient-confidentiality requirements.
- Any additional certification/licence required for a particular diagnostic procedure shall be maintained as applicable.

The official UPSMF registration portal lists Diploma in Lab Technician and B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology among registered paramedical courses.

1. Preferred Candidate Profile

- DMLT/B.Sc. MLT qualified.
- Valid UPSMF registration.
- Experience in a hospital/diagnostic laboratory preferred.
- Good practical knowledge of laboratory investigations.
- Basic computer and laboratory information-system knowledge preferred.
- Willingness to work in shifts, including weekends/holidays, where required.
