: Lead Data Engineer (Palantir Foundry)

Overview:

As a Foundry Platform Engineer (dependent on the name of the role) at Lear, you will own the full lifecycle of data and operational applications within Palantir Foundry, from ingesting and modeling data, to building the Ontology, to delivering the applications and logic that turn data into operational decisions. You will build and maintain robust data pipelines, model real-world business concepts as Ontology objects, implement business logic through Functions and Actions, and deliver end-to-end user applications in Workshop and custom widgets. This is a role for someone who wants to work across the entire stack, data, semantic layer, logic, and applications to drive data-driven decision making across the organization.

Responsibilities:

Manage Execution of Foundry Projects:

- Lead and participate in projects from conception to root cause analytics and solution deployment.
- Contribute expert analysis across all programs and product delivery phases.

Data Pipeline Development & Integration:

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, build, and maintain productive, reliable, and scalable data pipelines.
- Utilize core Foundry tooling, including:
- Pipeline Builder: Author batch and streaming data pipelines through a visual interface.
- Code Repositories: Develop transforms in Python for pipeline logic and reusable code.
- Data Lineage: Visualize and monitor end-to-end data flows.
- Leverage programmatic health checks to ensure pipeline durability.

Ontology Modeling & Configuration:

- Design and configure Ontology resources that map Lear’s datasets to real-world business concepts
- Object types, link types, properties, interfaces, etc.
- Define and maintain Action Types that govern how users create, edit, and delete objects, including parameters, validation rules, and submission criteria.

Functions & Business Logic:

- Develop Functions in Python and TypeScript to implement business logic, computed/derived values, and validation.
- Build function-backed Actions and function-backed columns to power writeback and interactive workflows on the Ontology.

Application Development

- Build and maintain operational applications in Workshop using the Ontology as the data foundation.
- Develop custom widgets (React / OSDK) to extend Workshop and deliver tailored user experiences.
- Partner with business users to translate operational requirements into intuitive, decision-driving applications.

Collaboration and Transparency:

- Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and operational teams.
- Provide transparency into pipeline computation, Ontology health, and application performance.

Compliance and data security:

- Ensure documentation and procedures align with internal practices (ITPM) and Sarbanes Oxley requirements, continuously improving them.
- Apply foundry’s security model (markings, roles, and granular access policies) to protect sensitive data across pipelines, the Ontology, and applications.

Quality Assurance & Optimization:

- Optimize data pipelines and their impact on resource utilization of downstream processes.
- Continuously test and improve data pipeline performance and reliability.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Total 7-11 years' experience as a Data Engineer/Analyst.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience with Palantir Foundry.
- Proficiency in Python, and familiarity with TypeScript/JavaScript.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Experience configuring Ontology resources within Palantir Foundry.
- Experience building Functions and function-backed Actions.
- Experience building applications in Workshop and familiarity with custom widgets.
- Familiarity with the AIP toolset (AIP Logic, AIP FDE, etc.) is a plus.
- HR analytics experience is a plus.
