Location: Thane, Maharashtra
Reports To: Head – R&D; Head
Role Summary The Lab QC Engineer will be responsible for quality control testing, evaluation, and documentation of pavement materials with a specific focus on Epoxy Asphalt Binder systems used in bridge deck surfacing, expressway pavements, and heavy-duty infrastructure applications. The role requires hands-on laboratory testing expertise, adherence to MoRTH/IRC/ASTM specifications, and close coordination with site teams and project engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct quality control testing of Epoxy Asphalt Binder, Modified Bitumen, SAMI, and related pavement materials as per MoRTH, IRC: SP:77, and relevant ASTM/BS standards.
- Perform binder testing including viscosity, penetration, softening point, ductility, pot life, and gel time for epoxy asphalt systems.
- Carry out aggregate testing (gradation, flakiness/elongation index, water absorption, crushing/impact value) relevant to Epoxy Asphalt Modified Concrete (EAMC) mix design.
- Prepare and test Marshall/EAMC specimens for stability, flow, air voids, and volumetric properties.
Maintain calibration records for lab equipment and ensure compliance with QC protocols.
- Document test results, prepare QC reports, and maintain traceability of batch-wise testing data for site dispatches.
- Support site teams during field trials, batching plant quality checks, and pre-paving material approvals.
- Investigate material-related non-conformances (e.g., pot life deviations, premature curing, binder-aggregate adhesion issues) and recommend corrective actions.
- Liaise with technology partners (e.g., ChemCo Systems) on formulation queries, testing protocols, and R&D; data sharing.
- Assist in preparing technical submissions, test certificates, and compliance documentation for client/consultant approvals.
Qualifications
- B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering / Pavement Engineering / Transportation (M.Tech preferred for senior candidates).
- 2–6 years of experience in pavement/asphalt laboratory testing; experience with Pavement Binder systems or modified binders is a strong advantage.
Key Skills
- Working knowledge of MoRTH Table 500 series specifications, IRC codes, and ASTM standards for bituminous/epoxy materials.
- Hands-on experience with lab equipment: Marshall stability apparatus, viscometers, penetrometers, ductility testing machines, ovens, sieve shakers.
- Solid documentation and report-writing ability.
- Basic understanding of polymer chemistry/curing kinetics is a plus for epoxy systems.
- Proficiency in MS Excel/Word for data logging and report generation.
Desired Attributes
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to travel to project sites for field QC support as needed.
- Ability to work independently and coordinate with cross-functional technical teams.
