Job Role Overview
Job Title: Lab Technical Assistant – DTTE (Design Thinking, Technology &
Engineering / Maker Space)
Department: DTTE / Innovation & Maker Space
Reports To: Head of Department / Lead DTTE Educator
Qualification: Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering, or ITI
Graduate
Role Summary: Provide end-to-end technical, preparatory, and maintenance support for the school’s Maker Space. Prepare raw materials (wood, metal, acrylic,
electronics), maintain machinery and hand tools, oversee inventory, and provide dedicated fabricaƟon and logisƟcs support for school showcases, STEAM exhibiƟons,
and student compeƟƟons.
Key Responsibilities
- Workshop & Material Preparation
Cut, size, sand, and prep raw wood, sheet metal, wire, and acrylic based on upcoming project lesson plans.
Solder, test, and assemble basic circuit boards, sensor kits, and microcontroller setups prior to instructional periods.
Set up student workstations with necessary tools, PPE (safety glasses, gloves), and project-specific consumables.
- Tool & Equipment Maintenance
Inspect and service hand tools, power tools (saws, drills, sanders, rotary tools), and electronic equipment (soldering stations, multimeters).
Calibrate and manage basic maintenance for digital fabrication equipment (3D printers, laser cutters).
Ensure all safety guards, emergency shut-offs, and dust extraction systems are fully operational.
- School Projects, Technical Events & Competitions Support
Assist student teams with advanced prototyping, structural fabrication, and hardware troubleshooting for inter-school competitions (e.g., robotics, design challenges,
hackathons, science fairs).
Fabricate custom display fixtures, project backdrops, mounting rigs, and mechanical parts for internal school exhibitions and annual tech fests.
Manage packing, transport prep, on-site toolkits,
and emergency field repairs for external student competitions.
Provide extended hour/weekend workshop supervision during peak competition build phases or major school project cycles.
- Inventory & Asset Management
Maintain an up-to-date physical and digital stock register for tools, consumables,
electronic components, and raw materials.
Track material consumption rates and raise purchase requests before stock reaches reorder levels.
Implement a tool check-in/check-out system to eliminate tool loss or damage.
- Classroom & Safety Support
Provide hands-on assistance during practical sessions under the guidance of the lead teacher.
Monitor students to enforce strict workshop safety rules.
Rapidly learn and operationalize new technical kits, tools, and software introduced to the curriculum.
