Job Role: Junior Software Engineer – Frontend

Work Experience: 1–1.5 Years

About MrMed

MrMed is India’s largest online pharmacy, specializing in providing super-speciality medicines for critical conditions such as cancer, kidney diseases, heart disorders, HIV/AIDS, transplants, hepatitis, and more.

We are a patient-centric organization committed to improving access to medicines for individuals undergoing treatment for critical diseases. We understand the challenges patients face when they are unable to afford or access their prescribed medications, and we are dedicated to making sure that every patient receives the treatment they need.

Our team is passionate about improving healthcare through technology. We build products that solve real problems for patients, pharmacies, doctors, and our internal teams.

The Role

As a Junior Software Engineer – Frontend & AI, you will work closely with our Product, Design, Backend, and Engineering teams to build and improve customer-facing products and internal tools.

Your primary responsibility will be building reliable, responsive, performant, and intuitive web experiences using technologies such as Next.js, React.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, Redux/Redux Toolkit, HTML, and CSS.

At the same time, we are increasingly building AI-powered products and workflows across the organization. You will have opportunities to experiment with and contribute to products involving LLMs, AI agents, AI APIs, RAG, MCP, OCR/document processing, embeddings, AI infrastructure, and other emerging technologies.

You do not need to be an AI expert. We care more about your curiosity, ability to learn, and willingness to understand new technologies and turn them into useful products.

We are looking for someone who can combine strong frontend fundamentals with engineering judgment and curiosity about AI.

What You Will Do

- Build and maintain responsive, performant, and high-quality user interfaces using React.js, Next.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Build reusable and maintainable frontend components and contribute to a scalable frontend architecture.
- Use Redux/Redux Toolkit and other appropriate state-management patterns to manage application state effectively.
- Work with Product Managers, Designers, and Backend Engineers to understand requirements, break down problems, and translate them into practical technical solutions.
- Integrate backend APIs and third-party services to build reliable end-to-end product experiences.
- Handle application state, asynchronous operations, loading states, errors, edge cases, and user interactions thoughtfully.
- Debug frontend and integration issues systematically and take ownership of problems from identification through resolution.
- Write clean, maintainable, reusable, and testable code while following established engineering practices.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, debugging, and continuous improvement of the engineering codebase.
- Use modern developer tools and AI-assisted development tools to improve development speed, research unfamiliar concepts, prototype ideas, debug problems, and automate repetitive work.
- Participate in building and experimenting with AI-enabled product experiences, including integrations with LLMs, AI APIs, agents, OCR/document processing, RAG, MCP-based workflows, and other emerging technologies.
- Work closely with Backend Engineers to understand APIs, data flows, authentication, error handling, and the systems powering AI-enabled features.
- Build prototypes and proof-of-concepts to evaluate new technologies and determine whether they can solve practical product or business problems.
- Adapt quickly to changing requirements and work in a fast-paced startup environment where engineers are expected to solve problems rather than simply execute predefined instructions.
- Take ownership of features from understanding the problem through implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and iteration.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 1–1.5 years of professional software development experience. Strong internships, open-source contributions, or substantial personal projects may be considered for exceptional candidates.
- Strong working knowledge of React.js, Next.js, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and Redux/Redux Toolkit.

- Good understanding of how frontend applications interact with APIs, backend services, databases, authentication systems, and third-party integrations.
- Experience working with Git and modern software development workflows.
- Strong programming fundamentals, problem-solving ability, and the willingness to investigate a problem before jumping to a solution.
- Demonstrated ability to use AI-assisted development tools effectively while still understanding, reviewing, debugging, and taking ownership of the resulting code.
- Hands-on exposure to AI technologies is strongly preferred. This could include personal projects, internships, hackathons, coursework, experimentation, or professional work involving:
- LLMs
- AI APIs
- RAG
- AI agents
- MCP
- OCR/document processing
- Embeddings
- Vector databases
- AI infrastructure
- AI-powered applications
- A GitHub profile, portfolio, or meaningful personal project demonstrating technical curiosity, independent problem-solving, and the ability to build something end-to-end is a strong plus.
- Knowledge of backend technologies is a plus. Experience with Node.js, Python, REST APIs, or databases is useful but not mandatory.
- Startup experience is a plus, but not mandatory.

What We Are Looking For We are not looking for someone who simply knows how to use an AI coding assistant.

We are looking for someone who can think first and use AI second.

AI tools can now generate a significant amount of code. The ability to write code is therefore only one part of being a good engineer. We value people who can understand a problem, reason about possible solutions, make sensible technical trade-offs, and take responsibility for what they build.

You should be comfortable using AI tools to:

- Explore unfamiliar technologies.
- Understand documentation and APIs.
- Prototype ideas quickly.
- Generate and improve code.
- Debug problems.
- Analyse logs and errors.
- Research technical approaches.
- Automate repetitive development work.

But you should also be able to independently evaluate what those tools produce. You should be able to:

- Understand the code you are shipping.
- Question an AI-generated solution when it does not make sense.
- Identify when an AI-generated solution is unnecessarily complex.
- Break ambiguous problems into smaller, solvable pieces.
- Research and learn technologies independently.
- Understand technical trade-offs.
- Build prototypes and turn promising ideas into working software.
- Explain why a particular technical approach was chosen.
- Learn a new framework or technology without requiring step-by-step instructions.

We value engineering judgment over tool familiarity.

Culture Fit

At MrMed, we value ownership, curiosity, critical thinking, practical execution, and continuous improvement.

We look for people who demonstrate:

- Critical Thinking – You reason through problems instead of blindly implementing requirements or accepting the first solution suggested by an AI tool.
- Strong Fundamentals – You understand programming, frontend architecture, and software engineering concepts rather than relying entirely on frameworks or AI tools.
- Problem Solving – You enjoy investigating why something isn't working and finding practical solutions.
- Ownership – You take responsibility for the quality, reliability, and outcomes of what you build.
- Curiosity – You actively explore new technologies and understand how they can be applied to real problems.
- Learning Agility – You can become productive with an unfamiliar technology without requiring detailed instructions for every step.
- Practical Judgment – You understand the difference between technology that is interesting and technology that actually solves a problem.
- Adaptability – You are comfortable working across different problems, technologies, and changing requirements.
- Collaboration – You communicate clearly and work effectively with Product, Design, Backend, and other engineering teams.
- Lean Execution – You favour simple, effective solutions and avoid unnecessary complexity or over-engineering.
- Technical Ownership – You don't treat AI-generated code, documentation, or solutions as a substitute for understanding the system.

How You'll Grow This role is designed for engineers early in their careers who want to develop rapidly across product engineering and emerging AI technologies.

You will work on real customer-facing applications and internal products while building a strong foundation in frontend engineering.

Depending on the problem, you may work on:

- Customer-facing web applications
- Internal operational tools
- Complex frontend workflows
- API integrations
- State management and application architecture
- Performance and frontend reliability
- AI-powered product experiences
- LLM integrations
- AI agents and agent interfaces
- OCR and document-processing workflows
- RAG-powered experiences
- AI-enabled automation
- Internal AI tools and workflows

You will be encouraged to move beyond simply implementing tickets and develop the ability to: Understand the problem → evaluate possible approaches → build the solution → test it → ship it → learn from it → improve it.

Our goal is to help you become a well-rounded product engineer who can build high-quality software and adapt as technology evolves.

Why This Role Is Different

At this stage of your career, you have an prospect to learn how modern software is actually built.

You will not be restricted to implementing narrowly defined frontend tickets. You will work closely with Product and Engineering, understand the problems behind features, experiment with new technologies, and see your work move from an idea to production.

You will also have the opportunity to work with AI technologies that are rapidly changing how software is built and how products are experienced.

We don't expect you to know everything.

We expect you to learn quickly, think independently, build things, and take ownership of the result.

MrMed's Culture The working culture at MrMed is dynamic, ownership-driven, and focused on practical execution.

We operate with the pace of a startup while solving problems in a domain where reliability and responsibility matter. Engineers are encouraged to experiment, challenge assumptions, learn continuously, and contribute beyond narrowly defined job descriptions.

If you enjoy building software, solving ambiguous problems, learning quickly, experimenting with new technologies, and working on products that have real-world impact, we'd like to hear from you.

Send your resume and relevant project/GitHub links to [email protected].

MrMed is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
