WE ARE HIRING
Senior Jewellery Designer: Heritage, Hand Sketching & Gouache
Location: Green Park, New Delhi
Employment: Full time
Work mode: On site
Shri Paramani Jewels is looking for an exceptional jewellery designer who does not merely draw beautiful jewellery, but understands the history, craftsmanship and cultural vocabulary behind it.
ABOUT SHRI PARAMANI JEWELS
Shri Paramani Jewels is a leading Indian heritage high jewellery house with a legacy dating to 1789, known for its jadau and polki masterpieces. Its prominent screen and Bollywood collaborations include Netflix’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, alongside a presence across leading couture and luxury platforms.
We are seeking a designer who can study historical references and thoughtfully reinterpret them into original, relevant and distinctly SPJ creations.
THE ROLE The designer will work closely with the founders, artisans and production team to develop original collections and bespoke pieces, beginning with historical research and initial concepts and progressing to detailed sketches, gouache renderings and production ready design sheets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research Nizam and Deccani jewels, Mughal and Rajput jewellery, wider Indian jewellery traditions and Victorian jewellery.
- Translate historical references into original designs without directly reproducing existing pieces.
- Create mood boards, motif studies, initial concepts and multiple design variations.
- Produce exceptional hand drawn jewellery sketches and detailed gouache renderings.
- Design necklaces, earrings, bangles, bracelets, rings and other fine jewellery categories.
- Prepare accurate design sheets covering proportions, dimensions, stone placement, articulation and construction details.
- Collaborate closely with karigars and the production team to ensure that each design is practical, wearable and true to its original vision.
- Review prototypes and make necessary aesthetic and technical refinements.
- Contribute to the development of SPJ’s evolving design language and historical reference archive.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- An exceptionally refined sense of proportion, balance, colour, detail and luxury.
- Excellent manual sketching and professional jewellery gouache rendering skills.
- Strong knowledge of traditional Indian jewellery, particularly polki, jadau and kundan construction.
- A genuine understanding of Nizam and Deccani, Mughal, Rajput and Victorian jewellery aesthetics.
- Ability to distinguish between thoughtful historical reinterpretation and simple replication.
- Understanding of gemstones, settings, jewellery construction, articulation, weight and wearability.
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly to artisans and production teams.
- Solid research ability, curiosity and respect for historical accuracy.
- A portfolio demonstrating original thinking and a consistently high standard of execution.
- At least three years of relevant professional experience is preferred. However, an exceptional portfolio will carry greater weight than years of experience.
ADDITIONAL ADVANTAGES
- Experience developing high jewellery, bridal, polki or bespoke collections.
- Familiarity with museum, auction house and archival jewellery references.
- Knowledge of CorelDRAW, Photoshop, Illustrator, Rhino or Matrix.
Please note that this is not a CAD only or mass market jewellery design role. Strong hand sketching, gouache and aesthetic judgement are essential.
