Role Description
We are looking for a full-time, on-site Instrumentation Engineer for Schmitten Chocolate , the FMCG/Confectionery business of Rajhans Group, based in Surat .
The Instrumentation Engineer will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, calibrating, and optimizing instrumentation and control systems used across chocolate manufacturing and FMCG production processes . The role will work closely with production, electrical, mechanical, maintenance, quality, and process teams to ensure reliable and efficient plant operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation and control systems used in chocolate and confectionery manufacturing processes.
- Handle field instruments such as temperature, pressure, flow, level, weighing, proximity, photoelectric, and other process sensors .
- Perform routine inspection, testing, calibration, and preventive maintenance of instruments and control devices.
- Troubleshoot PLC, control panel, instrumentation, and process-control-related issues to minimize production downtime.
- Monitor and maintain process parameters critical to chocolate manufacturing, including temperature, flow, pressure, level, and dosing .
- Support instrumentation requirements for equipment such as chocolate melting, mixing, refining, conching, tempering, moulding, cooling, packaging, and utility systems .
- Coordinate with production and maintenance teams during plant start-up, commissioning, shutdown, breakdown, and changeover activities .
- Read and interpret P&IDs;, electrical/instrumentation drawings, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, and equipment manuals .
- Maintain accurate records of calibration, preventive maintenance, breakdowns, modifications, and instrumentation-related activities.
- Support the implementation of preventive and predictive maintenance practices to improve equipment reliability.
- Identify opportunities for automation, process optimization, energy efficiency, and reduction of production losses.
- Ensure instrumentation systems comply with applicable safety, quality, food-industry, and plant standards .
- Work closely with the Quality and Production teams to support consistent product quality and process control.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to plant reliability, automation, productivity, and process accuracy .
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Instrumentation, or a related discipline .
- Strong knowledge of industrial instrumentation, process control, automation, and control systems .
- Hands-on experience with troubleshooting and calibration of sensors, transmitters, control valves, switches, and other field instruments.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of PLC, HMI, VFD, control panels, and industrial automation systems .
- Understanding of electrical fundamentals related to instrumentation and industrial control systems.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs;, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, and technical manuals .
- Experience in a plant, manufacturing, FMCG, food-processing, confectionery, or similar industrial environment will be preferred.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance, breakdown maintenance, commissioning, and shutdown activities.
- Familiarity with industrial safety practices, quality systems, and food-industry hygiene and compliance requirements .
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Willingness to work on-site in Surat and, when required, in shifts to support plant operations.
Preferred Experience Candidates with experience in FMCG, food processing, confectionery, chocolate manufacturing, packaging, process automation, or high-speed production lines will be preferred.
Experience with instrumentation and automation systems used in temperature control, dosing, mixing, process heating/cooling, weighing, packaging, and utility systems will be an added advantage.
