The Infection Control Nurse (ICN) is responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating infection prevention and control practices throughout the healthcare facility. The ICN works closely with clinical and support departments to reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), promote patient and staff safety, ensure compliance with infection-control standards, and support continuous quality improvement.

Key Responsibilities

- Implement and monitor the hospital's infection prevention and control policies and procedures.

- Conduct regular infection-control rounds, audits, and surveillance activities.

- Monitor healthcare-associated infections and maintain accurate infection-control records.

- Identify infection risks and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive actions.

- Ensure compliance with hand hygiene, PPE use, isolation precautions, and standard precautions.

- Monitor sterilization, disinfection, environmental cleaning, biomedical waste management, and safe injection practices.

- Coordinate surveillance of surgical-site infections, catheter-associated infections, ventilator-associated infections, and other relevant HAIs.

- Assist in outbreak investigation, containment, and reporting.

- Educate nurses, doctors, technicians, housekeeping staff, patients, and attendants on infection prevention practices.

- Organize and conduct regular training programs on hand hygiene, PPE, isolation precautions, waste management, and occupational safety.

- Monitor compliance with antimicrobial stewardship and other infection-control initiatives in coordination with the appropriate departments.

- Ensure appropriate collection, documentation, and reporting of infection-control data.

- Prepare monthly and periodic infection-control reports for the Infection Control Committee and hospital management.





- Participate in Infection Control Committee meetings and assist with implementation of committee recommendations.

- Coordinate with microbiology, nursing, housekeeping, CSSD, laboratory, pharmacy, and other departments on infection-control matters.

- Monitor staff exposure incidents, including needle-stick injuries, and facilitate appropriate reporting and follow-up.

- Support vaccination and occupational health initiatives for healthcare workers.

- Maintain current knowledge of infection prevention guidelines, standards, and best practices.

- Participate in hospital accreditation and quality-improvement activities related to infection prevention and control.

- Perform any other infection-control responsibilities assigned by hospital management.

Qualifications

- B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing / GNM from a recognized institution.

- Valid nursing registration with the appropriate nursing council.

- Certification or specialized training in Infection Prevention and Control is preferred.

- Additional qualifications in public health, epidemiology, or hospital administration are an advantage.

Experience

- 2–5 years of clinical nursing experience preferred.

- Experience in infection prevention and control, quality management, ICU, OT, microbiology, or hospital accreditation is desirable.

Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
