he Human Rights Commission (HRC) will foster cooperative working relationships across the community to advocate for and support the Winchester Human Rights Statement.
Human Rights
Statement The mission of the HRC will be to promote a community culture of inclusion by offering educational programs and events; serving as a resource to the Select Board and other Town departments with respect to human rights; reviewing policies and practices that may have discriminatory impact; and, supporting individuals who have experienced or witnessed harassment or bias based on any aspect of their identity.
The Town is seeking candidates committed to this mission, preferably who have some expertise or experience in developing work plans or charters, as this is a newly formed Commission. Of the selected residents, one will be a liaison to the Council on Aging, and one will be a liaison to the Disability Access Commission.
Experience promoting social justice and a culture of inclusion is preferred. The time commitment will be monthly meetings for approximately 10 months annually. Candidates should be able to commit to occasional special events and collaborative meetings with other local boards and nonprofits within town.
