Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Cad Interface Developer role based in the Pune District.
The Cad Interface
Developer will design, develop, and maintain interfaces between CAD applications and other engineering or enterprise systems, ensuring data consistency and efficient workflows. Day-to-day responsibilities include implementing and optimizing software integrations, writing and testing code for interface modules, and diagnosing and resolving technical issues related to interoperability. The role involves collaborating with engineering and product teams to understand requirements, translating them into robust interface solutions, and documenting technical specifications and implementation details.
The Cad Interface
Developer will also assist in performance tuning, participate in code reviews, and support continuous improvement of CAD-related toolchains.
Job Title: CAD Interface Developer (Siemens NX & SolidWorks)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced CAD Interface Developer specializing in Siemens NX and SolidWorks to design, develop, and maintain custom plugins, add-ins, automation tools, and system integrations. In this role, you will extend the capabilities of Siemens NX (using NX Open / NXOpen API) and SolidWorks (using the SolidWorks API) to automate design workflows, improve data exchange, build custom user interfaces, and integrate CAD systems with PLM/PDM platforms (especially Siemens Teamcenter) and other enterprise tools. You will help engineering teams reduce manual effort,
ensure data consistency, and deliver high-performance solutions for mechanical design, product development, and manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain custom applications, plugins, macros, and add-ins for Siemens NX using the NX Open API (C#, C++, or Python) and for SolidWorks using the SolidWorks API (primarily C# / .NET).
- Create user-friendly interfaces within NX (Block UI Styler, MenuScript) and SolidWorks (custom toolbars, property managers, dialogs).
- Automate complex CAD tasks such as part/assembly creation, configuration management, drawing generation, feature recognition, and model validation.
- Develop data exchange and interoperability solutions between Siemens NX, SolidWorks, and other systems (including neutral formats like STEP, JT, IGES, and native file handling).
- Integrate CAD tools with Siemens Teamcenter (via SOA, ITK, or related APIs) and other PLM/ERP systems for seamless product data management and lifecycle workflows.
- Optimize performance for large assemblies and models; ensure version compatibility across NX and SolidWorks releases.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to translate requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code; perform code reviews, unit/integration testing, debugging, and continuous improvement.
- Provide technical documentation, user guides, and ongoing support for developed tools.
- Stay current with NX Open, SolidWorks API updates, and emerging technologies (including AI-assisted design automation where applicable).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 3–5+ years of professional software development experience focused on CAD customization.
- Proven hands-on experience with:
- Siemens NX Open API (NXOpen / UFUNC) using , C++,
- SolidWorks API using C# / .NET (VB.NET experience is a plus).
- Strong understanding of 3D CAD modeling concepts, assemblies, parametric design, and geometry handling in both NX and SolidWorks.
- Proficiency in object-oriented programming, software architecture, and version control (Git).
- Experience developing desktop applications and custom UIs for CAD environments.
- Solid problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience integrating Siemens NX with Teamcenter (PLM).
- Knowledge of Knowledge Fusion (KF), Product Template Studio (PTS), or similar NX automation tools.
- Experience with large-model performance optimization and multi-CAD data exchange.
- Background in mechanical design, automotive, aerospace, heavy machinery, or manufacturing industries.
- Familiarity with additional languages or frameworks (Python scripting, WPF/WinForms, COM, XML/JSON).
- Exposure to AI/ML tools for design automation or generative design.
- Experience with other CAD systems or neutral formats for interoperability.
Soft Skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional engineering teams.
- Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
- Excellent technical documentation and stakeholder communication skills.
- Curiosity and willingness to continuously learn current CAD APIs and technologies.
Typical Work Environment
- Full-time role (hybrid or remote options often available).
- Common industries: Automotive, aerospace, industrial equipment, consumer products, engineering services, and software companies specializing in CAD/PLM solutions.
- Competitive compensation based on experience and location, frequently including benefits, professional development, and opportunities to work on advanced digital engineering tools.
This description is based on real-world openings involving Siemens NX Open and SolidWorks API development (including roles at companies like Capgemini, Ford, and various engineering software providers). It can be adjusted for junior/mid/senior levels or additional focus areas (e.g., Teamcenter-heavy or AI integration).
- Would you like a shorter version, a senior-level variant, or one emphasizing specific industries or additional tools?
