About the Role
We are looking for an accomplished and entrepreneurial Pharma Head / Business Head Pharmaceuticals to provide strategic and operational leadership for our pharmaceutical business.
The incumbent will be responsible for building, scaling, and managing the overall pharmaceutical business across domestic sales, international business and exports, marketing, business development, product portfolio development, contract/third-party manufacturing, regulatory coordination, supply chain, procurement, warehouse operations, quality coordination, commercial operations, and overall P&L; management.
This is a leadership role for a professional who can build and scale a pharmaceutical business, establish solid domestic and international markets, develop strategic partnerships, and drive sustainable revenue and profitability.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Overall Business Leadership & Strategy
- Provide overall strategic direction and leadership for the pharmaceutical business.
- Develop and execute short-term and long-term business strategies and growth plans.
- Establish annual business objectives, revenue targets, profitability goals, budgets, and forecasts.
- Drive the development of the pharmaceutical business from the ground up.
- Identify new business opportunities across pharmaceuticals, branded generics, OTC products, nutraceuticals, and other healthcare products.
- Monitor overall business performance and implement corrective actions wherever required.
- Drive sustainable revenue growth, profitability, and market expansion.
1. Domestic Sales & Business Development
- Lead the overall domestic pharmaceutical sales and business development strategy.
- Develop and expand distribution networks across India.
- Identify and appoint distributors, stockists, super stockists, institutional buyers, and channel partners.
- Build strategic relationships with hospitals, pharmacies, healthcare institutions, corporate clients, government agencies, and institutional customers.
- Drive institutional sales, tender business, and B2B partnerships.
- Identify new therapeutic segments, customer segments, territories, and commercial opportunities.
- Monitor sales performance and ensure achievement of revenue and growth targets.
1. International Business & Export Management
- Develop and execute the international business and export strategy.
- Identify and develop opportunities across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and other international markets.
- Build and manage international distributor and business partner networks.
- Evaluate export markets based on product potential, regulatory requirements, competition, and commercial viability.
- Lead international business negotiations and strategic partnerships.
- Ensure appropriate coordination for export documentation, product registrations, and country-specific regulatory requirements.
- Represent the organization at international pharmaceutical exhibitions, trade fairs, and business meetings.
1. Sales & Marketing Leadership
- Develop and implement the overall pharmaceutical sales and marketing strategy.
- Lead product positioning, brand building, market penetration, and promotional initiatives.
- Drive successful product launches and commercial expansion.
- Develop scientific and commercial marketing initiatives.
- Support physician engagement, institutional marketing, and digital marketing initiatives.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activities, customer requirements, and emerging opportunities.
- Work closely with sales and marketing teams to improve product performance and market share.
1. Contract / Third-Party Manufacturing
- Develop and lead the contract and third-party manufacturing strategy.
- Identify, evaluate, and establish relationships with suitable manufacturing partners.
- Negotiate commercial agreements and manufacturing terms.
- Ensure manufacturing partners meet applicable quality and regulatory standards.
- Coordinate production planning based on market demand and sales forecasts.
- Ensure timely product availability while optimizing manufacturing costs.
- Maintain quality, compliance, and commercial governance across manufacturing partnerships.
1. Product Portfolio Development & Business Expansion
- Develop and expand the pharmaceutical product portfolio.
- Identify high-potential therapeutic segments and market opportunities.
- Evaluate opportunities in branded generics, OTC products, nutraceuticals, and specialty products.
- Lead market research and commercial evaluation of new products.
- Drive product selection, portfolio rationalization, and launch planning.
- Coordinate with regulatory, quality, manufacturing, and commercial teams for successful product registrations and launches.
1. Regulatory Affairs, Quality & Compliance
- Provide leadership oversight for regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Ensure coordination and compliance with applicable pharmaceutical regulations, including CDSCO, State FDA, GMP,
WHO-GMP, GDP, GSP, and relevant international requirements.
- Oversee product registrations, licensing, regulatory submissions, statutory documentation, labeling, and packaging compliance.
- Ensure strong quality and regulatory governance across manufacturing, storage, distribution, and commercial operations.
- Work closely with Regulatory Affairs and Quality teams to address compliance matters and risks.
1. Supply Chain, Procurement & Warehouse Operations
- Provide strategic direction for pharmaceutical supply chain and procurement operations.
- Ensure uninterrupted availability of products, raw materials, packaging materials, and other critical supplies.
- Develop and manage vendor and supplier relationships.
- Oversee warehouse operations, including receiving, storage, inventory, dispatch, and distribution.
- Ensure implementation of GDP and GSP requirements.
- Oversee temperature-controlled storage and cold-chain operations, wherever applicable.
- Ensure batch-wise traceability, inventory controls, FEFO/FIFO practices, expiry management, inventory audits, and recall preparedness.
- Optimize inventory levels and minimize stock losses and working-capital blockage.
1. Logistics & Distribution
- Develop efficient domestic and international distribution networks.
- Oversee transportation, export logistics, and third-party logistics partners.
- Ensure timely delivery while maintaining product quality and regulatory compliance.
- Monitor distributor and logistics partner performance.
- Optimize logistics costs and improve service levels and distribution efficiency.
1. Financial & P&L; Management
- Take overall responsibility for the pharmaceutical business P&L.;
- Develop and monitor annual budgets, financial forecasts, and business plans.
- Monitor revenue, margins, operating costs, working capital, and profitability.
- Develop appropriate pricing and commercial strategies.
- Identify opportunities for cost optimization without compromising quality or long-term sustainability.
- Drive EBITDA improvement and sustainable profitability.
1. Leadership & Organizational Development
- Lead cross-functional teams across Sales, Marketing, Business Development, Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Supply Chain, Procurement, Warehouse, Finance, and Operations.
- Establish departmental objectives and KPIs aligned with overall business goals.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.
- Create a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct regular business reviews and ensure effective execution of strategic initiatives.
