We are seeking an experienced Terraform / GCP Platform Engineer with 4+ years of relevant infrastructure/platform engineering experience, including 3+ years of hands-on GCP and infrastructure CI/CD experience.
The role will focus on building and enhancing an enterprise Terraform-based Infrastructure as Code (IaC) platform, enabling automated and self-service infrastructure provisioning on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
The successful candidate will be responsible for Terraform platform engineering, onboarding automation, CI/CD enablement, repository management, governance, and access-control capabilities that allow application and engineering teams to consume cloud infrastructure in a standardized, secure, and scalable manner.
Key Responsibilities
Terraform Platform Engineering
Design, develop, maintain, and enhance enterprise Terraform-based infrastructure platforms. Develop reusable and standardized Terraform configurations for GCP infrastructure. Build scalable Infrastructure as Code patterns that can be consumed by multiple application and engineering teams.
Develop and maintain reusable Terraform modules.
Establish Terraform coding standards, repository structures, and development practices.
Troubleshoot Terraform configuration, deployment, state, dependency, and execution issues.
Support ongoing enhancements and lifecycle management of the Terraform platform.
Promote automation and repeatability across cloud infrastructure provisioning.
Infrastructure as Code
Implement and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions for GCP. Convert manual infrastructure provisioning processes into automated Terraform workflows. Develop reusable infrastructure components to improve consistency and reduce manual effort.
Implement version-controlled infrastructure configurations using Git.
Ensure infrastructure changes are reviewable, repeatable, auditable, and aligned with governance requirements.
Drive adoption of IaC practices across engineering and application teams.
GCP Automation
Develop Terraform automation for provisioning and managing Google Cloud Platform (GCP) infrastructure. Automate infrastructure deployment and configuration workflows. Support standardized GCP environment creation and onboarding.
Troubleshoot infrastructure provisioning and automation failures.
Work with cloud and application teams to translate infrastructure requirements into reusable Terraform solutions.
Enable consistent infrastructure deployment across applicable GCP environments.
Self-Service Onboarding
Design and develop self-service onboarding capabilities for teams consuming cloud infrastructure. Automate onboarding processes to minimize manual platform-team intervention. Develop standardized workflows allowing teams to request and provision infrastructure through approved mechanisms.
Establish repeatable onboarding patterns for new applications, projects, and engineering teams.
Integrate onboarding automation with Terraform, Git repositories, CI/CD processes, governance, and access controls.
Improve developer experience while maintaining enterprise security and governance requirements.
CI/CD Enablement
Design and support CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployment. Integrate Terraform workflows with infrastructure CI/CD pipelines. Automate Terraform validation, planning, review, and deployment processes.
Enable controlled promotion of infrastructure changes through appropriate environments.
Troubleshoot pipeline execution and infrastructure-deployment failures.
Implement appropriate approval and governance controls within infrastructure delivery workflows.
- Work with engineering teams to improve infrastructure deployment speed, consistency, and reliability.
Git & Repository Management
Use Git as the primary version-control mechanism for Infrastructure as Code. Establish and maintain Terraform repository structures. Support repository creation and onboarding automation.
Define standards for branching, pull/merge requests, reviews, and infrastructure-code management.
Ensure appropriate repository permissions and access controls.
Maintain reusable Terraform modules and platform components through controlled repositories.
- Support effective collaboration between platform and application engineering teams.
Governance & Access Control
Implement governance controls for Terraform-based infrastructure provisioning. Ensure infrastructure deployments follow defined enterprise standards and policies. Integrate access-control requirements into platform and onboarding workflows.
Establish appropriate permissions for infrastructure repositories and deployment processes.
Support controlled and auditable infrastructure changes.
Balance self-service capabilities with security, governance, and operational controls.
- Collaborate with relevant security, cloud, and governance teams to implement appropriate platform controls.
Platform Standardization
Develop standardized Terraform patterns and reusable infrastructure components. Reduce infrastructure configuration inconsistencies through automation. Define common onboarding and deployment patterns.
Improve platform scalability and maintainability.
Identify opportunities to eliminate manual infrastructure activities.
Drive continuous improvement of Terraform and GCP automation capabilities.
Collaboration & Enablement
Work closely with cloud, DevOps, infrastructure, application, security, and engineering teams. Understand application-team infrastructure requirements and translate them into platform capabilities. Enable engineering teams to effectively consume Terraform-based self-service infrastructure.
Support teams during onboarding and adoption of the platform.
Troubleshoot complex issues across Terraform, GCP, Git, and CI/CD workflows.
Document platform standards, onboarding processes, and operational procedures.

This role is focused on platform engineering and automation rather than manual cloud administration. The successful candidate will help establish and evolve a Terraform-based GCP platform that enables application and engineering teams to provision infrastructure through standardized, automated, governed, and repeatable workflows.
The engineer should be capable of owning Terraform platform components, developing infrastructure automation, enabling CI/CD workflows, supporting self-service onboarding, managing Infrastructure as Code repositories, and ensuring appropriate governance and access controls across the platform.
