About the Role

Malkano is looking for an experienced Senior Full-Stack Developer to join our team and help build modern health technology products across web, mobile, backend, and cloud infrastructure.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone comfortable owning features across the full development lifecycle, from architecture and database design to frontend implementation, deployment, and testing.

Core Responsibilities

Frontend & Mobile Development

- Build contemporary admin dashboards using React 18, Vite, and TanStack Router
- Develop mobile and web participant applications using Expo and React Native
- Build responsive interfaces using Tailwind CSS, Radix UI, and shadcn/ui
- Manage client state using Jotai or Zustand
- Manage server state and data fetching using TanStack Query
- Build reliable, validated forms using React Hook Form and Zod
- Implement internationalization and multilingual support using i18next

Backend Development
- Design and build APIs using Fastify
- Implement contract-first, type-safe APIs using ts-rest
- Build type-safe database queries using Drizzle ORM
- Develop and maintain PostgreSQL integrations
- Implement background processing and scheduled jobs using Graphile Worker
- Integrate AWS services including Cognito, S3, SES, and DynamoDB
- Build real-time application functionality using WebSockets

Database, Security & Data
- Design scalable relational database schemas
- Create and manage SQL migrations




- Implement appropriate data security practices
- Implement field-level encryption for sensitive application data
- Maintain data integrity, performance, and reliability

Infrastructure & DevOps
- Manage cloud infrastructure using Pulumi with TypeScript
- Deploy and operate applications using AWS ECS Fargate on ARM64
- Configure AWS infrastructure including VPC, ALB, CloudFront, and Route 53
- Build and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions
- Troubleshoot application, deployment, and infrastructure issues

Testing & Quality
- Write and maintain unit and end-to-end tests using AVA
- Test React Native applications using Jest and React Testing Library
- Participate in code reviews and maintain strong engineering standards
- Help improve application reliability, performance, and maintainability

What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is a senior-level engineer who can work independently while collaborating effectively with product, design, and engineering teams. You should be comfortable working across the stack, making architectural decisions, debugging complex problems, and taking ownership of production features. Experience building health technology, healthcare, research, or other applications involving sensitive data is an asset.
