Caloreon is developing a next-generation refrigeration system based on magnetocaloric cooling, an emerging technology that can cut energy consumption by up to 20% and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We are working at the frontier of materials science, magnetism, and thermal engineering to build a cooling platform that is refrigerant-free, compressor-free, and built for the post-compressor era.
THE ROLE
We are looking for a hands-on Founding Engineer to lead experimental innovation, prototype development, and technology validation. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to work at the intersection of experimental physics, mechanical engineering, materials science, instrumentation, and climate technology.
You do not need to be a thermal or refrigeration engineer. We are open to candidates from experimental physics, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, electrical engineering, materials science, instrumentation, or related backgrounds.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
•
Design and execute experiments independently, build and optimize prototypes involving magnets, motors, pumps, shafts, bearings, sensors, and thermal systems.
•
Design and fabricate test rigs using machining, 3D printing, sheet-metal fabrication, and locally available manufacturing resources.
•
Integrate instrumentation and data-acquisition systems using thermocouples, RTDs, pressure/flow sensors, encoders, Hall sensors, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, LabVIEW, Python, MATLAB, or similar tools.
•
Analyse experimental data, troubleshoot prototype performance, and drive iterative improvements.
•
Translate research papers and patents into practical experiments, while collaborating with fabricators, suppliers, research institutions, and technical partners.
•
Contribute to Caloreon's technology roadmap, IP, grant applications, and commercialization efforts.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR The most significant qualities are hands-on experimentation, ownership, curiosity, and persistence. You may be a strong fit if you:
•
Have independently designed and executed experiments, and built, modified, or repaired physical prototypes and genuinely enjoy working in laboratories and workshops.
•
Can troubleshoot systems when designs fail, work with incomplete information, and drive iterative improvements.
•
Understand measurement, calibration, repeatability, and uncertainty, with the ability to work across physics, mechanics, electronics, materials, and software.
•
Are interested in climate technology and deep-tech entrepreneurship, with a desire to contribute to building a company rather than simply completing assigned tasks.
•
Bring relevant experience in heat transfer, fluid flow, magnetic systems, materials testing, mechanical design, mechatronics, instrumentation, robotics, or energy systems, a strong advantage, though not mandatory.
QUALIFICATIONS A PhD is not required. We welcome applications from strong M.Sc. Physics, M.Tech., B.Tech. Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Materials Engineering candidates. Exceptional final-year students and research engineers with substantial hands-on project experience are also encouraged to apply.
