Job Title: Food Technologist, Canteen Quality & Hygiene

Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Food Technologist to oversee food quality, hygiene, and safety standards across our canteen operations. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with food safety regulations, monitor vendor and material quality, conduct regular kitchen inspections, and implement best practices in food hygiene and sanitation. This role requires close coordination with canteen vendors, procurement teams, and internal stakeholders to deliver safe, hygienic, and high-quality food services.
Key Responsibilities
Food Quality & Safety
- Monitor and ensure the quality and safety of food served in the canteen.
- Conduct regular food quality assessments and ensure adherence to food safety standards.
- Perform routine food testing, including sensory evaluation and basic quality checks.
- Ensure compliance with FSSAI guidelines, HACCP principles, and applicable food safety regulations.
- Investigate food quality complaints and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Food Hygiene & Sanitation
- Monitor overall hygiene and sanitation practices within the canteen and kitchen.
- Conduct regular inspections of food preparation, cooking, serving, and storage areas.
- Ensure proper cleaning and sanitization schedules are followed.
- Verify pest control activities and recommend improvements where necessary.
Vendor & Material Quality Management
- Monitor the quality of raw materials and ingredients supplied by vendors.
- Verify incoming food materials for freshness, quality, packaging, labeling, and storage conditions.
- Coordinate with vendors to resolve quality issues and ensure corrective actions.
- Maintain vendor performance records related to food quality and hygiene.
Kitchen Inspection & Compliance
- Conduct scheduled and surprise audits of kitchen operations.
- Ensure compliance with food handling, storage, temperature control, and waste management practices.
- Monitor equipment cleanliness and maintenance.
- Prepare inspection reports and track closure of observations.
Personal Hygiene Monitoring
- Ensure kitchen staff follows personal hygiene standards, including:
- Proper grooming and uniforms
- Hand hygiene practices
- Use of PPE (gloves, caps, masks, aprons)
- Medical fitness and health checks where applicable
- Conduct awareness sessions and refresher training on food safety and hygiene.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain inspection records, audit reports, quality checklists, and compliance documentation.
- Prepare periodic reports on food quality, hygiene audits, vendor performance, and improvement initiatives.
- Support internal and external food safety audits.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve food quality, hygiene practices, and operational efficiency.
- Recommend process improvements and preventive measures to enhance food safety standards.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of Food Safety, Food Hygiene, and Quality Management Systems.
- Understanding of FSSAI regulations, HACCP, GMP, and GHP.
- Knowledge of food testing methods and quality assurance practices.
- Experience in canteen, industrial kitchen, catering, hospitality, or food manufacturing environments.
- Vendor management and quality evaluation skills.
- Positive inspection, auditing, and documentation abilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Preferred Experience
- 23 years of experience in food quality, food safety, QA/QC, canteen management, catering operations, or hospitality food services.
- Experience working with corporate cafeterias, industrial canteens, hospitals, educational institutions, or large-scale food service operations will be preferred.
Preferred Certifications (Added Advantage)
- FSSAI Food Safety Supervisor Certification (FoSTaC)
- HACCP Certification
- GMP/GHP Training
- Internal Auditor Food Safety Management Systems (ISO 22000)
