Finance & Accounts Lead (Chartered Accountant / MBA Finance)
Experience: 5+ years post-qualification (CA) / MBA Finance 10-12 Years of experience.
Reports to: CFO / Founders The Role
We are hiring a Chartered Accountant / MBA Finance to own and lead the accounts and finance function end-to-end. This is a high-ownership, founder-facing role for someone who wants to build the finance backbone of a scaling startup - not just maintain it. You will run the books, keep us fully compliant (including FEMA/RBI reporting on the foreign-currency investment we receive), own investor MIS, manage banker relationships, and give the founders a clean, forward-looking view of cash, receivables and projections.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Book Closure
- Own timely and accurate monthly, quarterly and annual closure of books of accounts.
- Maintain a clean general ledger, trial balance, reconciliations and fixed-asset register; keep books audit-ready at all times.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting and vendor payments.
- Lead statutory and internal audits and coordinate with auditors to closure.
Compliance & Foreign Remittance
- Ensure 100% on-time statutory compliance - GST (filing & reconciliation), TDS, income tax, ROC/MCA filings, PF/ESIC and professional tax.
- Income Tax and GST Scrutiny / Assessment procedure.
- Own foreign remittance and FEMA/RBI compliance - reporting on foreign-currency investment received (FCGPR, FIRC) and any outward remittances (Form 15CA/15CB).
- Maintain the compliance calendar and secretarial coordination so nothing is ever missed or attracts a penalty.
Investor MIS & Reporting
- Prepare and deliver accurate, timely monthly/quarterly investor and board MIS, with commentary on burn, runway, ARR/MRR, NRR and unit economics.
- Own the data room and support the ongoing fundraise with schedules, cap-table inputs and diligence responses.
- Build and maintain finance dashboards that founders and investors trust.
Treasury, Banking & Receivables
- Manage banker relationships - facilities, limits, documentation and day-to-day coordination.
- Own receivable planning and collections - track ageing, drive DSO down, and keep cash inflow predictable.
- Manage working capital, cash-flow and treasury operations.
Planning, Projections & Controls
- Build and maintain rolling projections - cash-flow, runway, P&L; and budget vs. actuals - and explain variances.
- Support annual budgeting and business planning with the founders.
- Strengthen finance processes, controls and automation (Tally/ERP, expense and reconciliation workflows).
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Success in this role is measured on:
- Investor MIS : - Accurate monthly & quarterly investor / board MIS delivered by the agreed date, every cycle. Zero restatements. Board-ready commentary on burn, runway, ARR/MRR and unit economics.
- Book closure : - Monthly books closed within 5-7 working days; clean, audit-ready GL, trial balance and reconciliations at all times.
- Compliance & foreign remittance : - 100% on-time statutory compliance - GST, TDS, ROC/MCA, PF/ESIC - plus FEMA / RBI reporting on foreign-currency investment received (FC-GPR) and any outward remittances (Form 15CA/15CB). No penalties or late fees.
- Banker relationship : - Proactive, healthy relationships with all bankers; facilities, limits and documentation kept current; quick turnaround on banker requests.
- Receivable planning : - DSO reduced and held to target; disciplined collection follow-up; ageing reviewed weekly with no surprises on cash.
- Projections & modelling : - Reliable rolling cash-flow, runway and P&L; projections; variance vs. actuals explained; models trusted by founders and investors.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) with 5+ years of post-qualification experience or MBA Finance with 10-12+ years of experience.
- Robust grounding in Indian accounting standards, taxation (GST/TDS) and statutory compliance.
- Hands-on experience with book closure, MIS and reconciliations; proficient in Tally/ERP and advanced Excel.
- Working knowledge of FEMA / foreign remittance compliance, or the ability and appetite to own it quickly.
- Experience in Income Tax and GST Scrutiny / Assessment procedure.
- High ownership, strong attention to detail, and the discipline to hit reporting deadlines every cycle.
Good to Have
- Experience in a startup or SaaS environment.
- Exposure to investor MIS, fundraising or data-room preparation.
- Financial modelling and projection-building skills.
- Experience handling foreign-currency investment inflows and FEMA reporting.
- Interest in business process automation through excel / tally / power BI / SQL / python
What Success Looks Like
- First 6 months: Clean, on-time monthly closes and investor MIS from your first full quarter.
- By 12 months: A finance function investors, bankers and founders rely on zero compliance slips, predictable cash and receivables, and projections that hold up.
