Role Description The Drone Design and Development Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing drone systems and components, with a focus on mechanical structures, propulsion, and payload integration. Day-to-day tasks include creating detailed mechanical and product designs, performing simulations, coordinating prototype fabrication, and conducting functional and performance testing. The role involves active participation in research and development (R&D;) projects, documenting design iterations, analyzing test data, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to improve reliability, safety, and efficiency.

This is a contract,



on-site role based at IIT Bombay in Mumbai, requiring regular interaction with laboratory staff, faculty, and project stakeholders to meet project timelines and objectives.

Qualifications

- Strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering and Machine Design, with the ability to apply core principles to drone systems.
- Proficiency in Product Design and mechanical CAD tools for creating detailed models and engineering drawings.
- Experience with Testing, validation, and performance assessment of mechanical and mechatronic systems.
- Hands-on involvement in Research and Development (R&D;), including prototyping, experimentation, and iterative improvement.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Familiarity with drones or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), including structural design, materials selection, and basic aerodynamics.
- Ability to work on-site in laboratory and workshop environments, following safety protocols and project procedures.
- Effective communication, documentation, and collaboration skills for working with multidisciplinary academic and technical teams.
- Experience with simulation tools (e.g., FEA, CFD) and exposure to control systems or electronics integration is an advantage.
