JOB PURPOSE The Draftsman / Mechanical Draftsman is responsible for preparing accurate and detailed 2D drawings, 3D models, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, part drawings, layouts, and manufacturing documentation for pharmaceutical processing and packaging machinery. The position will work closely with Design, Production, Fabrication, Machine Shop, VMC, Assembly, Quality, Purchase, and Project teams to ensure that drawings are accurate, manufacturable, and released within project timelines.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Mechanical Drafting
- Prepare detailed 2D mechanical drawings for machine components and assemblies.
- Prepare fabrication drawings, part drawings, assembly drawings, and installation layouts.
- Develop drawings based on engineering concepts, sketches, specifications, and design inputs.
- Prepare detailed drawings with dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, surface finish, and other manufacturing requirements.
- Modify and revise drawings as per engineering and production requirements.
- Maintain accuracy and consistency of drawings throughout the project lifecycle.
B. 3D Modelling
- Develop 3D models of machine components, sub-assemblies, and complete machine assemblies.
- Prepare 3D models for fabricated and machined components.
- Create sheet-metal components and assemblies where required.
- Generate accurate 2D manufacturing drawings from 3D models.
- Check assemblies for component interference and fitment issues.
- Support design engineers in developing machine concepts and assemblies.
4. FABRICATION DRAWINGS
- Prepare detailed fabrication drawings for SS304 / SS316 and other applicable materials.
- Prepare drawings for welded structures, frames, tanks, hoppers, guards, supports, and machine assemblies.
- Provide appropriate dimensions and welding details.
- Specify material grades and thicknesses.
- Indicate welding symbols and fabrication requirements.
- Ensure drawings are suitable for shop-floor manufacturing.
- Coordinate with Fabrication and Welding teams to resolve drawing-related issues.
5. MACHINING DRAWINGS
- Prepare detailed drawings for machined components manufactured through:
- Conventional Turning
- VMC Machining
- Drilling
- Milling
- Boring
- Tapping
- Grinding
- Provide accurate dimensional tolerances and surface-finish requirements.
- Specify critical dimensions and inspection requirements.
- Coordinate with VMC Operators, Turners, Fitters, and Quality Inspectors regarding manufacturing requirements.
- Modify drawings based on manufacturing feedback.
6. ENGINEERING DRAWING INTERPRETATION
- Understand and interpret engineering drawings and design specifications.
- Apply appropriate:
- Dimensions
- Geometrical tolerances
- GD&T;
- Surface finish symbols
- Welding symbols
- Section views
- Detail views
- Material specifications
- Ensure drawings clearly communicate manufacturing requirements.
7. DESIGN CHANGE & REVISION CONTROL
- Incorporate approved engineering changes into drawings.
- Maintain proper drawing revision history.
- Ensure only the latest approved drawings are released for production.
- Withdraw or identify obsolete drawings as per document-control procedures.
- Maintain proper numbering and revision systems.
- Coordinate with Production and Quality regarding drawing changes.
8. PRODUCTION SUPPORT
- Provide technical drawing support to the Production department.
- Clarify drawing-related queries raised by Fabrication, Machine Shop, Assembly, and Quality teams.
- Visit the shop floor to understand manufacturing issues.
- Modify drawings where technically approved.
- Support manufacturing teams in resolving dimensional and assembly issues.
- Ensure drawings are practical and manufacturable.
9. QUALITY SUPPORT
- Ensure drawings contain accurate dimensions and specifications.
- Define critical dimensions and tolerances where required.
- Coordinate with Quality for inspection requirements.
- Support preparation of inspection-related drawings and documents.
- Review manufacturing drawings for errors before release.
- Support corrective actions related to drawing discrepancies.
10. DESIGN REVIEW
- Participate in design review meetings.
- Review drawings with Design Engineers and Senior Engineers before release.
- Identify potential manufacturing, assembly, or interference issues.
- Coordinate with concerned departments for design corrections.
- Ensure drawings meet customer and project requirements

12. SOFTWARE SKILLS
Mandatory / Preferred
- AutoCAD
- SolidWorks / Autodesk Inventor / Creo or equivalent 3D CAD software
- MS Excel
- MS Word
- Knowledge of additional CAD/engineering software will be an advantage.

- Knowledge of fabrication and machining requirements.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good dimensional accuracy.
- Ability to identify drawing errors.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work under project deadlines.
- Strong documentation and revision-control skills.
15. QUALIFICATION
Preferred
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
- ITI Draftsman – Mechanical
- Diploma in Mechanical Design / Production Engineering
- Candidates with relevant experience and strong CAD skills may also be considered.
16. EXPERIENCE
Recommended Experience
2–3 years of relevant experience in:
- Mechanical Drafting
- Machine Design
- Pharmaceutical Machinery
- Packaging Machinery
- Industrial Equipment
- Fabrication Machinery
- Special Purpose Machines (SPM)
- Engineering Manufacturing
- Experience in pharmaceutical machinery manufacturing will be an added advantage.
Job Type: Full-time Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
