Position Overview
We are seeking a highly driven and detail-oriented Deputy Payroll Head to join our People Operations team. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in payroll management, statutory compliance, payroll governance, and process improvement.
This role will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, managing statutory compliance requirements, enhancing payroll efficiency, and supporting payroll operations across multiple locations.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Operations
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing for employees across multiple locations.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of salaries, reimbursements, incentives, bonuses, and Full & Final Settlements.
- Validate payroll inputs including attendance, leave records, salary revisions, deductions, and statutory contributions.
- Maintain payroll accuracy, confidentiality, and adherence to organizational policies.
- Address payroll-related queries and escalations from employees and stakeholders.
Statutory Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable statutory regulations including:
- Provident Fund (PF)
- Employee State Insurance (ESI)
- Professional Tax (PT)
- Income Tax (TDS)
- Labour Welfare Fund (LWF)
- Gratuity and other labour law requirements
- Manage statutory filings, audits, reconciliations, and regulatory reporting.
- Monitor changes in payroll legislation and implement required updates.
- Strengthen payroll controls and ensure adherence to internal audit requirements.
Process Improvement & Automation
- Drive payroll automation and digitization initiatives.
- Collaborate with HRMS and technology teams to improve payroll systems and workflows.
- Identify process gaps and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Develop scalable payroll processes to support organizational growth.
Reporting & Analytics
- Prepare payroll MIS, management dashboards, and headcount reports.
- Conduct payroll cost analysis and workforce reporting.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and audit requirements in collaboration with Finance teams.
- Generate insights and recommendations to improve operational effectiveness.
Stakeholder Management & Team Leadership
- Partner closely with HR, Finance, Compliance, and Operations teams.
- Act as a subject matter expert for payroll-related matters.
- Manage payroll escalations and ensure timely resolution.
- Mentor and support payroll team members.
- Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor's Degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related discipline.
- Postgraduate qualification or relevant certifications will be an added advantage.
Experience
- 56 years of experience in payroll operations and statutory compliance.
- Experience handling payroll for large, multi-location organizations.
- Strong exposure to payroll audits, reconciliations, reporting, and employee lifecycle payroll processes.
Required Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of Indian payroll regulations, taxation, and labour laws.
- Hands-on experience with HRMS, payroll software, ERP systems, and payroll reporting tools.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong payroll analytics and reporting capabilities.
