Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Content Strategist & Information Architect who thrives at the intersection of strategy, structure, and storytelling.

In this role, you’ll lead content strategy, information architecture, and web content development for websites serving government clients. You’ll translate complex information, business requirements, and audience needs into intuitive site structures, clear content models, and purposeful, user-centered content.

You’ll work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure every page and piece of content serves a clear purpose, meets accessibility and usability standards, supports SEO objectives, and aligns with each client’s voice and goals.

This is a client-facing role that requires strong strategic thinking, exceptional writing and editing skills, and the ability to confidently present and defend content recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

Content Strategy & Architecture

- Collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders to understand business objectives, user needs, and content requirements.
- Conduct comprehensive audits of existing website content to assess quality, relevance, gaps, duplication, and performance.
- Develop content strategies that align organizational goals with user needs.
- Create information architectures, sitemaps, navigation structures, and user flows to guide website design and development.
- Develop and maintain content models, content inventories, taxonomies, and other IA documentation.
- Translate complex or technical information into clear, intuitive content structures.
- Partner with UX designers, visual designers, developers, and project managers to ensure cohesive digital experiences.
- Recommend content governance approaches, templates, and standards that support long-term content quality.

Copywriting & Content Development

- Write, edit,



and refine high-quality web content tailored to each client’s audience, tone, and objectives.
- Develop user-centered content for government and public-sector websites.
- Create clear, concise, and accessible content that follows WCAG and Section 508 requirements.
- Develop SEO-friendly content based on search intent, audience needs, and content strategy.
- Write and optimize page titles, headings, metadata, calls to action, internal links, and other on-page content elements.
- Create microcopy, including form instructions, error messages, buttons, labels, and other interface content that improves usability.
- Edit and proofread content for clarity, consistency, accuracy, accessibility, grammar, and tone.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Present content strategies, IA recommendations, sitemaps, and writing samples to clients with clarity and confidence.
- Facilitate workshops, interviews, and content discussions with clients and subject-matter experts.
- Guide stakeholders through content decisions and explain recommendations using user needs, accessibility, SEO, and business objectives.
- Gather feedback, manage revisions, and build consensus among stakeholders.
- Communicate complex content and IA concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Collaboration & Delivery

- Work closely with UX/UI designers to translate content strategy and IA into effective page layouts and user experiences.
- Collaborate with developers to ensure content structures and CMS implementations support the approved information architecture.
- Coordinate with project managers and other team members to meet project timelines and deliverables.
- Contribute to website redesigns, content migrations, and ongoing website improvements.
- Ensure content deliverables meet established quality, accessibility, and client standards.

Continuous Improvement

- Stay current with trends and best practices in content strategy, information architecture, UX writing, SEO, accessibility, and digital government.
- Recommend improvements to internal content processes, templates, documentation, and frameworks.
- Help establish reusable content standards and best practices across projects.
- Continuously evaluate content performance and recommend improvements based on user needs and available data.

Qualifications





- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, UX, or a related field.
- 4–8 years of experience in content strategy, information architecture, web content, UX writing, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience developing sitemaps, information architectures, content models, taxonomies, and IA documentation .
- Exceptional writing, editing, and content-structuring skills across a variety of web formats and use cases.
- Strong understanding of user-centered content strategy and information architecture principles.
- Experience creating content for complex websites with multiple audiences, stakeholders, or content types.
- Familiarity with CMS platforms such as Drupal and WordPress ; experience with Adobe Experience Manager is a plus.
- Working knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards and Section 508 requirements.
- Understanding of SEO principles, search intent, and on-page content optimization.
- Strong communication, presentation, facilitation, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with designers, developers, project managers, clients, and subject-matter experts.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven workplace.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working with U.S. government, public-sector, nonprofit, or highly regulated organizations .
- Experience with government website standards, including Section 508 and related accessibility requirements.
- Experience with large-scale website redesigns, content migrations, or CMS implementations.
- Experience conducting stakeholder interviews, content workshops, or usability-focused content research.
- Familiarity with analytics and content-performance tools.
- Experience establishing content governance frameworks and reusable content standards.
