Job Title: Consultant Pulmonologist
Department: Pulmonology
Reports To: Medical Superintendent
1. Job Summary
The Consultant Pulmonologist is responsible for providing comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with respiratory and pulmonary disorders. The consultant will provide outpatient, inpatient, emergency, and critical-care consultation as required, while ensuring high standards of patient care and clinical practice.
1. Key Responsibilities
A.
Clinical
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and manage acute and chronic respiratory diseases.
- Conduct OPD consultations and provide appropriate treatment plans.
- Manage inpatient cases and conduct regular ward rounds.
- Evaluate and manage respiratory emergencies.
- Manage patients with asthma, COPD, pneumonia, tuberculosis, interstitial lung disease, pleural diseases, sleep-related breathing disorders, etc.
- Provide consultation for ICU/MICU patients with respiratory complications.
- Assess and manage patients requiring oxygen therapy and non-invasive ventilation.
- Perform or supervise appropriate pulmonary procedures as per hospital facilities and privileges.
B. Diagnostic & Procedural Responsibilities
- Interpret chest X-rays, HRCT/CT chest, pulmonary function tests, ABG and other relevant investigations.
- Perform procedures such as bronchoscopy, pleural procedures, and other respiratory interventions, where credentialed and permitted.
- Ensure appropriate documentation of clinical findings, diagnosis, treatment and procedures.

Patient
Care & Communication
- Explain diagnosis, treatment options, risks and prognosis clearly to patients and relatives.
- Maintain good communication and professional relationships with patients and hospital staff.
- Obtain informed consent before procedures where applicable.
- Ensure continuity of care and appropriate follow-up.
D. Emergency & Critical Care
- Attend respiratory emergencies promptly.
- Provide specialist support during acute respiratory distress and critical conditions.
- Participate in emergency/ICU consultations when required.
- Assist in management of ventilated and critically ill patients in coordination with the critical-care team.
E. Documentation & Quality
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records.
- Follow hospital policies, clinical protocols, infection-control practices and NABH standards.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality-improvement initiatives and morbidity/mortality reviews as required.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and professional ethics.
1. Qualifications
- MBBS from a recognized medical institution.
- MD/DNB in Pulmonary Medicine / Respiratory Medicine from a recognized institution.
- Valid medical registration with the appropriate medical council.
- Additional fellowship/training in critical care or interventional pulmonology will be an advantage.
1. Experience
- Relevant experience as a Consultant / Specialist in Pulmonology.
- Experience in managing OPD, inpatient, emergency and critical-care respiratory cases.
- Experience in pulmonary procedures will be an advantage.
