ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Compliance Officer – AML/KYC to join our Compliance team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in customer onboarding, KYC reviews, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, customer due diligence, and financial crime investigations — ensuring compliance with UAE AML/CFT regulations, VARA requirements, FATF recommendations, and internal compliance policies.
This role is ideal for professionals with experience in Banking, FinTech, Payments, Crypto Exchanges, or Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs) who are passionate about regulatory compliance and financial crime prevention.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Customer Onboarding & Due Diligence
- Conduct end-to-end onboarding for individual and corporate customers.
- Perform Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) based on customer risk profiles.
- Verify KYC documents, corporate records, and Ultimate Beneficial Ownership (UBO) structures.
- Review high-risk customers including PEPs, sanctioned entities, high-risk jurisdictions, and complex ownership structures.
- Assess customer risk ratings using a risk-based approach.
- Coordinate with customers to obtain pending KYC documentation and resolve onboarding queries.
AML Screening & Ongoing Monitoring
- Perform sanctions, PEP, adverse media, and watchlist screening using World-Check or similar tools.
- Conduct ongoing customer due diligence (OCDD) and periodic KYC reviews.
- Monitor regulatory updates related to AML/CFT, sanctions, and financial crime.
Transaction Monitoring & Investigations
- Monitor customer transactions to identify suspicious or unusual activities.
- Investigate AML alerts and analyse customer behaviour, transactional patterns, and financial crime risks.
- Escalate suspicious cases with detailed investigation findings to the MLRO.
- Support fraud detection, sanctions compliance, and financial crime investigations.
Regulatory Reporting
- Prepare Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) and Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs).
- Assist with regulatory reporting through the UAE FIU goAML platform.
- Support responses to regulatory requests and compliance investigations.
- Maintain complete case files and investigation documentation.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with UAE AML/CFT Laws, VARA regulations, FATF Recommendations, and internal policies.
- Support implementation of AML policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Participate in AML risk assessments and customer risk reviews.
- Identify compliance gaps and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
Documentation & Audit Support
- Maintain accurate KYC records, investigation files, and audit trails.
- Ensure documentation complies with statutory retention requirements.
- Support internal audits, external audits, and regulatory inspections.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Business Administration, Law, or a related field.
- CAMS, ICA, ACAMS, or other AML certifications will be an added advantage.
EXPERIENCE
- 2–5 years of experience in AML/KYC, Compliance, Financial Crime, Risk Management, Banking, FinTech, or Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs).
- Hands-on experience in customer onboarding, KYC / CDD / EDD, transaction monitoring, and sanctions screening & regulatory reporting.
- Experience with World-Check, Sumsub, goAML, or similar AML platforms is preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Solid understanding of UAE AML/CFT regulations, the VARA Rulebook, and FATF Recommendations.
- Expertise in CDD, EDD, UBO verification, and customer risk assessments.
- Experience with sanctions screening, PEP screening, adverse media screening, and transaction monitoring.
- Excellent analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong report writing and documentation abilities.
- High attention to detail with a risk-focused mindset.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
