1. Job Purpose

To perform blood bank laboratory activities including blood collection, testing, processing, storage, compatibility testing and issue of blood and blood components while ensuring patient safety, accuracy, proper documentation and compliance with hospital, statutory and regulatory requirements.
1. Key Responsibilities

- Perform blood grouping, Rh typing, antibody screening and other required immunohematology tests.
- Perform cross-matching and compatibility testing before issue of blood/components.
- Receive, inspect, label and store blood and blood components appropriately.
- Maintain required temperature and storage conditions for blood and components.
- Assist in donor registration, screening and blood collection procedures as required.
- Perform blood component preparation and handling as per approved SOPs.
- Check blood units for expiry, leakage, hemolysis, contamination or any abnormality before issue.
- Ensure proper identification and traceability of donor samples, blood units and patient samples.
- Issue blood and blood components against authorized requests and maintain proper records.
- Handle emergency blood/component requirements promptly and accurately.
- Maintain records related to collection, testing, processing, storage, issue, return and disposal of blood/components.
- Perform and document quality control procedures as per SOPs.
- Monitor and record temperatures of blood bank refrigerators, freezers and other equipment.




- Operate and maintain blood bank equipment safely and report equipment malfunction immediately.
- Maintain adequate stock of reagents, consumables, blood bags and other required materials.
- Follow infection-control, biosafety and biomedical-waste management procedures.
- Immediately report transfusion reactions, discrepancies, adverse events and other deviations to the concerned senior/Medical Officer.
- Participate in internal audits, inspections, quality improvement activities and accreditation requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality of donor and patient information.
- Coordinate with doctors, nursing staff, laboratory staff and other hospital departments for blood/component requirements.
- Candidate must be eligible for approval/authorization by the competent State FDA / Drug Control Authority (Licensing Authority) for working as a Blood Centre Technician, wherever applicable.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Accuracy of blood grouping and cross-matching.
- Timely and accurate issue of blood/components.
- Proper maintenance of blood/component storage conditions.
- Compliance with approved SOPs and quality-control procedures.
- Accurate maintenance of registers, records and documentation.
- Compliance with statutory, FDA/Drug Control Authority and hospital requirements.
- Proper traceability of blood units and patient samples.
- Timely reporting of adverse events, transfusion reactions and deviations.
- Zero/minimum identification, labeling and documentation error
