Base Location - India – Gwalior

Working Mode - Remote

Experience - 1 to 3 years (Relevant experience in Ayurveda, medical coding, clinical documentation or healthcare informatics preferred)

Key Responsibilities

1. Ayurveda Medical Coding

- Develop and maintain structured coding for diseases, diagnoses, patient concerns and symptoms.
- Standardize Ayurvedic assessments, including Dosha, Prakriti/Vikriti and other clinical observations.
- Structure treatments, Panchakarma procedures, medicines, formulations, herbs, dosage, route, duration, diet, lifestyle, yoga/exercise and follow-up instructions.
- Support coding of laboratory investigations, procedures and clinical services.
- Reduce reliance on free-text documentation and improve machine-readable clinical data.

2. ICD-11 & WHO TM2 Mapping

- Study and apply ICD-11 Traditional Medicine Module 2 (TM2) terminology and coding guidance relevant to Ayurveda.
- Map commonly treated Ayurvedic conditions to appropriate TM2 codes and document coding logic.
- Support dual coding and biomedical classification mapping where clinically appropriate.
- Maintain version-controlled mappings and track updates to ICD-11/TM2 standards.

3. Ayurveda Clinical Terminology Database

- Build and maintain a structured clinical knowledge and coding library.
- Develop terminology covering English and Sanskrit/Ayurvedic terms, synonyms, definitions, clinical categories and source references.
- Maintain mappings with ICD-11, TM2, National AYUSH Morbidity Codes, NAMASTE and SNOMED CT, where applicable.
- Link clinical concepts with treatments, medicines, procedures, follow-up parameters and billing/service categories.

4. FHIR & ABDM Clinical Data Mapping

- Work with developers to represent clinical information within ABDM-aligned HL7 FHIR R4 structures.
- Support mapping of clinical information across resources such as Patient, Practitioner, Encounter, Condition, Observation, Medication, Procedure, DiagnosticReport, ServiceRequest and CarePlan.




- Define the appropriate clinical information, code systems and accompanying data required for structured digital health records.
- Act as the clinical bridge between Ayurveda practice and technical implementation.

5. Prescription & Treatment Standardisation

- Define structured prescription fields for medicines/formulations, composition, dosage, dosage form, frequency, timing, route, duration, Anupana and instructions.
- Standardize dietary restrictions, lifestyle advice and follow-up requirements.
- Develop terminology and coding frameworks for Panchakarma and other Ayurvedic procedures.
- Identify applicable coding systems and document gaps where standardized codes are unavailable.

6. Medical Billing & Insurance Coding

- Help build standardized foundations for Ayurveda consultations, procedures, treatments, diagnostic services and medicines.
- Develop service and billing masters along with diagnosis-to-treatment and treatment-to-billing linkages.
- Define documentation requirements for future reimbursement workflows.
- Support the clinical side of NHCX-aligned workflows, including eligibility, pre-authorisation, claims and claim responses, where applicable.

7. Clinical Documentation & Quality Assurance

- Create consultation documentation guidelines and SOPs for Amrutam doctors.
- Define structured capture from chief complaint and symptoms through assessment, diagnosis, treatment, medicines, lifestyle advice and follow-up.
- Create doctor-training material to improve documentation quality and coding readiness.
- Audit consultation records for coding accuracy, completeness, terminology, FHIR mapping and billing consistency.
- Develop internal coding quality scores and recommend continuous improvements.

8. Cross-functional Collaboration

- Work closely with Ayurveda doctors on clinical workflows and terminology.
- Collaborate with Product teams on structured consultation and prescription journeys.
- Partner with Technology teams on FHIR resources, APIs and clinical databases.
- Coordinate with ABDM/compliance stakeholders on evolving standards.




- Support Operations and Finance teams in building future billing and claims workflows.

Analytics & Reporting

- Monitor the percentage of major consultation concerns mapped to standardized terminology.
- Track the percentage of Ayurveda diagnoses mapped to TM2, NAMASTE or other relevant codes.
- Maintain and report the number of validated clinical concepts in the terminology master.
- Track standardization of medicines, treatments and procedures.
- Measure the percentage of consultation records capable of structured FHIR representation.
- Monitor FHIR clinical-data validation accuracy and overall coding accuracy.
- Track prescription documentation completeness and reduction in free-text clinical data.
- Report the number of clinical documentation SOPs created and records audited.
- Track standardized billing/service codes and readiness for insurance/NHCX workflows.

Skill Requirements · BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) or a higher Ayurveda qualification.

- Strong understanding of Ayurvedic diagnosis, treatments, medicines and clinical terminology.
- Training, certification or professional experience in medical coding.
- Working understanding of ICD coding systems and medical terminology.
- Comfort working with structured clinical data and digital healthcare workflows.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with clinical, product and technology teams.
- Exposure to medical billing, Revenue Cycle Management, Health Information Management, Clinical Informatics, Healthcare IT or EHR/HMIS systems is preferred.
- AAPC CPC or a comparable medical coding credential will be an added advantage.
- FHIR experience is preferred but not mandatory for candidates with solid Ayurveda and medical coding expertise.

Required Technical Knowledge

- Ayurvedic Clinical Coding & Terminology: Ayurvedic clinical terminology, structured clinical documentation, medical coding, ICD coding systems, WHO ICD-11 and Traditional Medicine Module 2 (TM2), and National AYUSH Morbidity Codes and NAMASTE terminology.
- Healthcare Interoperability & Digital Health: SNOMED CT, LOINC, HL7 FHIR R4, ABDM Health Data Interchange specifications, ABHA and HIP/HIU architecture, Electronic Health Records, healthcare interoperability, FHIR Bundle validation and clinical data mapping.
- Healthcare Billing & Claims: Medical billing, healthcare documentation workflows, NHCX and healthcare insurance claims workflows.
