Department: Nephrology
Designation: Associate Consultant Nephrology
Job Purpose To provide comprehensive nephrology care to in-patients and out-patients, including diagnosis and management of acute and chronic kidney diseases, dialysis-related care, renal emergencies, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams to ensure quality and patient-centric clinical outcomes. The role is aligned with typical hospital Associate Consultant nephrology responsibilities such as OPD/IPD care, dialysis management, clinical rounds, documentation, and multidisciplinary coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct OPD consultations and provide comprehensive evaluation of patients with renal disorders.
- Diagnose and manage Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), nephrotic/nephritic syndromes, glomerular disorders, electrolyte and acid-base abnormalities.
- Conduct regular IPD rounds and provide nephrology consultations across various hospital departments.
- Evaluate and manage patients requiring hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and other renal replacement therapies.
- Monitor dialysis patients and manage dialysis-related complications, fluid balance and electrolyte abnormalities.
- Attend nephrology emergencies and critically ill patients with renal complications.
- Review and interpret renal function tests, urine investigations, imaging and other relevant diagnostic reports.
- Develop individualized treatment plans and monitor patient response to therapy.
- Coordinate with Critical Care, Urology, Cardiology, Transplant, Internal Medicine, Surgery and other specialties for comprehensive patient care.
- Provide pre- and post-transplant nephrology care, wherever applicable.
- Counsel patients and relatives regarding diagnosis, treatment,
dialysis, medication, diet, lifestyle modifications and follow-up.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, prescriptions, consultation notes and discharge summaries.
- Ensure adherence to hospital protocols, infection-control practices, patient-safety standards and ethical medical practices.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, CME programs, case discussions and academic activities.
- Guide and support residents/junior doctors in patient management, as required.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of nephrology and renal-care services within the hospital.
Qualification
- MBBS with MD/DNB in General Medicine followed by DM/DrNB/DNB in Nephrology from a recognized institution.
- Valid registration with NMC/State Medical Council.
- Candidates with relevant fellowship/clinical exposure in nephrology, dialysis or renal transplantation may be preferred.
Experience
- 03 years of post-DM/DrNB/DNB experience in Nephrology preferred.
- Fresh DM/DrNB candidates with strong clinical exposure may also be considered, depending on hospital requirements. Similar Associate Consultant nephrology roles in hospitals commonly seek DM/DrNB qualification and early post-super-specialization experience.
