About The Role The Senior Staff Accountant at Emergence plays a vital role in establishing and maintaining scalable financial accounting practices across multiple SaaS businesses within our portfolio. This position requires a highly skilled professional capable of executing comprehensive month-end closing processes, ensuring compliance with U.S.
Generally Accepted Accounting
Principles (GAAP), and providing insightful variance analysis. The role involves close collaboration with Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A;) teams to develop accurate budgets and forecasts, mentoring junior accountants, and identifying process improvements to optimize efficiency.
The Senior Staff
Accountant will be instrumental in supporting the company's growth by ensuring financial accuracy, transparency, and operational efficiency, thereby enabling leadership to make informed, data-driven decisions.
Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP, particularly in SaaS revenue recognition including ASC 606 and deferred revenue accounting.
Proven experience leading month-end close cycles and preparing complete financial statements independently is essential.
The candidate should demonstrate expertise in Excel, including financial modeling, Power Query, VLOOKUP/INDEX-MATCH, and scenario analysis. Hands-on experience with ERP systems such as Sage Intacct, NetSuite, or Microsoft Dynamics 365 is required. Strong variance analysis skills, the ability to translate financial results into clear business insights, and a track record of implementing process improvements with measurable outcomes are highly valued.
Preferred qualifications include a CA or CMA certification, with 2-3+ years of experience in PE-backed environments or multi-business portfolio settings.
Experience mentoring junior team members and working in fast-paced, growth-oriented environments will be advantageous.
Responsibilities The Senior Staff Accountant will be responsible for executing and managing the month-end close process, including revenue recognition, accruals, and deferred revenue under U.S. GAAP standards.
They will document all significant balance sheet variances over $50,000, providing detailed explanations linked to operational drivers. Conducting variance analysis across monthly, quarterly, and annual cycles to identify root causes and support management decisions will be a key function. The role involves partnering with FP&A; to prepare accurate budgets, forecasts,
and reforecasts, considering accruals and working capital dynamics.
Mentoring junior staff on complex accounting entries, reconciliation methodologies, and GAAP treatment decisions is integral to the role. Additionally, the Senior Staff Accountant will identify opportunities for process improvements, develop documented ROI analyses, and lead the implementation of automation initiatives to enhance efficiency. Ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting while maintaining a proactive approach to problem-solving will be central to success in this role.
