We Want To Change The World. We Believe It Starts With Education. In India, 100 million children from low-income communities grow up without access to the 21st-century skills they need to thrive — from emotional intelligence and digital literacy to everyday money management. This gap leads to a lifetime of limited opportunity, intergenerational poverty, and rising mental health concerns.
What Are We Doing?India’s classrooms are stuck in the past. We’re building what kids need for the future. At The Apprentice Project (TAP), we’re rewriting the rules of learning — using AI to unlock deeply personalized, adaptive education for every child, no matter their background. Our flagship product, TAP Buddy, delivers learning through simple, accessible interfaces like WhatsApp — where design isn’t just visual, it’s experiential. But for this to work, every interaction must feel intuitive, engaging, and human. Every message, flow, and visual must make sense to a student encountering this world for the first time. That’s where you come in.As a Designer at TAP, you will shape how students experience learning — through conversations, visuals, and interactions that make education feel accessible, relatable, and exciting. This isn’t just design. It’s experience-building for impact.
Who We’re Looking ForWe’re looking for someone at the start of their design journey — a builder in the making. You’re curious, detail-oriented, and excited to learn. You don’t just think about how things look — you care about how they work, how they feel, and how they’re understood by someone very different from you. You’re comfortable being in learning mode — asking questions, taking feedback seriously, and improving with every iteration. You enjoy structure, but you’re also willing to experiment. You’re excited by the idea of designing for real users — especially students from underserved communities. If you’re someone who wants to build strong fundamentals, learn fast, and design with empathy — we want to meet you.
About The RoleLocation: Remote / Hybrid (India Preferred) Experience: 1-3 years Compensation: ₹6 - 8 LPAReports to: Head of DesignType: Full-Time
What You’ll Do
Conversational Design

- Design WhatsApp-based learning flows in Hinglish using Figma, with guidance from senior designers
- Work on individual flow modules — onboarding, activity nudges, fallbacks — as assigned.
- Apply conversation design guidelines consistently — tone, emoji usage, CTA structure, and spelling.
- Assist in QA of live or upcoming flows,

flagging issues and documenting them clearly.

Graphic Design

- Create visual layouts for posters, messages, and communication assets using Canva or Figma.
- Support the team with visual execution on campaigns, research reports, and presentations.
- Follow brand guidelines and templates — and ask when in doubt.

System Thinking

- Understand how your work fits within larger user journeys and follow established systems.
- Assist in mapping user journeys by contributing to specific sections of a broader map.
- Help document flows, templates, and design assets so the team has clear, reusable references.

AI-Native Design

- Use AI tools — ChatGPT, image generation, and others — to assist with copy, visuals, and flow suggestions, with intent and judgement, not just for speed.
- Experiment with tools the team is exploring and share what you learn.
- Apply sound critical thinking to AI outputs before using them in work.

User Research Support

- Support research sessions by taking structured notes and organising raw data.
- Assist in basic survey or interview prep under senior guidance.
- Develop empathy for TAP's users — students, teachers, government partners — by staying close to field feedback and research outputs.

Collaboration & Communication

- Communicate clearly within the team and provide effective handoffs to stakeholders.
- Help with documentation of flow handoffs to Tech and Product teams.
- Support design QA by testing flows and flagging functional or UX issues.
- Learn to read and ask questions about funnel data, engagement metrics, and PRDs.

Who You Are

- 0–3 years of design experience, including internships or academic projects.
- Basic proficiency in Figma and/or Canva.
- Curious about users and how design affects behaviour.
- Willing to design in Hinglish and think for audiences very different from yourself.
- Organised and responsive — you don't let things fall through the cracks.
- Open to feedback and able to act on it without ego.

Bonus:

- Exposure to WhatsApp chatbot, or mobile-first product design.
- Basic familiarity with AI tools for copy or image generation.
- Interest in social impact, education, or behaviour change.

- Some experience with user research — even as a note-taker or observer.

Skills You Bring

- Conversational Design: Ability to design clear, user-friendly WhatsApp flows that work for first-generation users in low-resource contexts.
- Visual Design: Proficiency in Canva and/or Figma — comfortable executing layouts, posters, and communication assets to a brief.
- AI Tool Fluency: Willingness to experiment with and apply AI tools purposefully as part of a design workflow — not randomly, but with judgement.
- Organisation & Communication: Strong documentation habits, clear handoffs, and proactive communication when blocked or behind.

What Success Looks Like

- Assigned flows and visuals are completed with clarity — the output makes sense to someone who wasn't in the brief.
- Clarifying questions are asked before starting, not after missing the mark.
- User experience issues are spotted during reviews — not just design errors.
- AI tools are used with purpose and judgement as part of a workflow.
- Work is delivered on time; blockers are communicated proactively.
- Feedback is actively sought, absorbed quickly, and reflected in improved output.
- Documentation — MoMs, file versioning, change logs — is maintained consistently.

Why Join Us? Because you're not here to just make things look good. You’re here to make things work better for those who need it most.At L1, you're not just doing executional work — you're building the foundation of a design career in one of the most compelling and challenging contexts in India. You'll design for users that most design teams never think about, work on a product that reaches tens of thousands of students daily, and learn from a team that takes craft seriously. The fastest path from L1 to L2 is simple: own your work, flag blockers early, absorb feedback like a sponge, use AI with intent, and consistently raise the quality bar on everything you ship.
What You Can Expect?

- Real ownership – Work on actual product flows, visuals, and user experiences

- Cross-functional exposure – Collaborate with product, curriculum, and program teams
- Structured growth – Clear path to evolve into a Senior Designer role
