The Echo Technician is responsible for performing echocardiography examinations, obtaining high-quality cardiac images and measurements, assisting cardiologists during diagnostic procedures, and maintaining accurate patient and equipment records in accordance with hospital protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine 2D echocardiography, M-mode, and Doppler studies as prescribed by the cardiologist.
- Prepare patients for echocardiography procedures and explain the examination process.
- Obtain appropriate patient history and relevant clinical information before the procedure.
- Acquire high-quality cardiac images and measurements according to established protocols.
- Assist cardiologists during echocardiography and other cardiac imaging procedures.
- Perform and assist with TMT/stress echo, contrast echo, or other specialized studies when trained and authorized.
- Monitor patients during procedures and immediately report any concerning symptoms or changes to the cardiologist.
- Maintain accurate patient records, examination worksheets, images, and reports.
- Ensure proper operation, cleaning, and routine maintenance of echocardiography equipment.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and report equipment problems to the appropriate department.
- Follow infection-control, patient-safety, radiation-safety where applicable, and hospital policies.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Ensure proper storage and transfer of digital echo images and patient data.
- Coordinate with cardiologists, nurses, reception staff, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain adequate supplies and report shortages when required.
- Participate in quality-control activities, audits, and departmental training.
