Job Description – Business Development Manager (BDM)
Impel Overseas Education
Role Purpose
The Business Development Manager will be responsible for developing local student recruitment channels, institutional relationships and new business opportunities for Impel Overseas. The role will be highly field-oriented, with a strong focus on colleges, schools, student outreach and lead generation.
Key Responsibilities
- College & School Outreach
- Regularly visit colleges, universities and schools within the assigned territory.
- Build relationships with Principals, HODs, Placement Officers, Training & Placement Cells and other key stakeholders.
- Develop institutions as sustainable sources of student enquiries and referrals.
- Student Data & Lead Generation
- Identify legitimate opportunities to obtain/access student enquiry data through institutional partnerships, events and approved activities.
- Generate qualified leads for overseas education counselling.
- Ensure all leads are promptly entered into Impel's designated CRM/database and allocated for follow-up.
- Relationship Management
- Maintain regular contact with educational institutions rather than limiting engagement to one-time visits.
- Develop a structured follow-up calendar for each institution.
- Convert relationships into seminars, counselling sessions, student interactions and referral opportunities.
- Seminars & Student Engagement
- Organise and conduct Study Abroad seminars, career guidance sessions, workshops and presentations at colleges and schools.
- Coordinate counsellor/university representative participation wherever required.
- Generate enquiries and counselling appointments from every activity.
- BTL Activities
- Plan and execute Below-the-Line (BTL) activities to increase Impel's visibility and generate walk-ins.
- Identify opportunities for education fairs, campus activities, student events and other local promotions.
- Track leads and conversions generated from each activity.
- Local Market Development
- Map colleges, schools, coaching centres and other potential student-generation channels within the assigned territory.
- Identify untapped locations and student segments.
- Monitor competitor activities and changing student preferences.
- New Business & Expansion
- Formulate practical plans for new business opportunities and geographical expansion.
- Identify potential institutional tie-ups, referral channels, corporate relationships and other strategic opportunities.
- Present expansion proposals to management with expected investment, lead potential and commercial viability.
- Lead-to-Walk-in Coordination
- Work closely with telecallers and counsellors to ensure generated leads are followed up.
- Focus not merely on generating databases but on producing qualified enquiries, appointments and walk-ins.
- Review lead quality and outcomes with the counselling team.
- Planning & Reporting
- Prepare weekly visit and activity plans.
- Maintain records of institutions visited, contacts developed, seminars conducted, leads generated and follow-ups required.
- Submit regular performance and market-development reports to management.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Institutions Visited → Active Institutional Relationships → Seminars/Activities → Qualified Leads → Appointments → Walk-ins → Applications
Performance should therefore not be measured simply by the number of visits made. The primary objective is to turn field activity into measurable business.
Ideal Candidate
Graduate/Postgraduate with experience in business development, education, overseas education, student recruitment, institutional sales or BTL marketing. The candidate should be comfortable with extensive local travel, institutional networking, presentations and target-oriented work.
Most key: this should be a field-based business development role, not a desk-based sales position.
Pay: ₹45,000.00 - ₹55,000.00 per month
Work Location: In person
