The Radio Officer is responsible for operating and maintaining the radio communication equipment on board vessels, ensuring effective communication in compliance with maritime regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate and maintain radio communication equipment on board vessels
- Ensure compliance with maritime communication regulations
- Monitor radio frequencies and respond to distress signals
- Maintain logs of radio communications and equipment performance
- Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting of radio equipment
- Coordinate with other departments regarding communication needs
- Provide training and support to crew members on radio operations
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- 5-10 years of experience in radio operations or a related field
- Proficient in the use of VHF, MF, and HF radio equipment
- Robust understanding of maritime communication protocols and regulations
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair radio communication equipment
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Familiarity with emergency communication procedures
- Certification in radio operation and maintenance from a recognized institution
