Role Summary

The Store Keeper is responsible for the receipt, storage, issue, and accounting of all materials at the project site — cement, steel, aggregates, finishing materials, hardware, consumables, tools, and shuttering material. The role ensures that every inward and outward movement of material is documented, stock levels are accurate at all times, and site work never stalls for want of material that is already in stores.

Key Responsibilities

Material Receipt & Inspection
- Receive materials against approved purchase orders; verify quantity, quality, brand/make, and condition before acceptance.
- Prepare GRNs (Goods Receipt Notes) promptly; record invoice, DC, and vehicle details; report short supply, damage, or brand mismatch to the purchase team the same day.
- Coordinate weighbridge checks for steel, sand, and aggregates where applicable.

Storage & Stock Management
- Maintain organised, safe, and weather-protected storage — cement on dunnage with FIFO issue, steel sorted by diameter, finishing materials and CP/sanitary fittings under lock and key.




- Maintain stock registers / bin cards (or store software) with live quantities; conduct weekly cycle counts and monthly physical stock verification, reconciling discrepancies.
- Track minimum stock levels for critical and quick-moving items and raise indents/alerts before stock-outs.

Material Issue & Control
- Issue materials only against authorised indents/material issue slips signed by the site engineer; record issues contractor-wise and work-wise.
- Track returnable items — tools, machinery, scaffolding, shuttering material — with issue/return registers and follow up on overdue returns.
- Monitor consumption against BOQ/theoretical norms and flag abnormal consumption or suspected wastage/pilferage to the Project Manager.
- Manage scrap segregation, recording, and disposal as per company procedure.

Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain complete records: GRNs, issue slips, stock ledgers, returnable register
