Patch Management Engineer / Patch Management Specialist (Windows)
The Patch Management Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, testing, deploying, and reporting operating system and application patches across enterprise infrastructure environments. The role ensures systems remain secure, compliant, and resilient against vulnerabilities while minimizing business disruption through effective patching strategies and governance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
- 4-8+ years of relevant experience in Infrastructure Operations, Security Operations, or Patch Management.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience managing patching across global infrastructure environments.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) Administration and Powershell
- Valuable knowledge of WSUS (Windows Server Update Service) , Microsoft SCCM/MECM /Configration Manager , Microsoft Intune .
- Knowhow of Active Directory , Group Policy Objects (GPOs), Windows workloads on Hyper‑V , VMware vSphere, including VM lifecycle management , Tanium.
Key Responsibilities
Patch Management Operations
- Manage end-to-end patch lifecycle for servers, desktops, virtual machines, network devices, etc
- Plan and execute monthly, quarterly, and emergency patching activities.
- Deploy OS and application patches across Windows, Linux, and cloud environments.
- Coordinate patch schedules with application owners, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders.
- Patch Cataloguing and Classification , Prioritize patch deployment based on risk levels, and business impact.
- Track remediation of critical and high-risk vulnerabilities within agreed SLAs
Testing & Change Management
- Validate patches in test and pre-production environments before production rollout.
- Raise and manage change requests in accordance with ITIL processes.
- Conduct impact assessments and rollback planning for patch deployments.
- Participate in CAB (Change Advisory Board) reviews.
Automation & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and maintain patch automation scripts and workflows.
- Optimize patch deployment processes using enterprise tools.
- Identify opportunities to improve patch compliance and reduce operational effort.
- Support initiatives related to platform modernization and security enhancement.
