Experience

Qualification
Bachelors degree in Civil / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
MBA/PGDM in Marketing, Business Development, or Infrastructure Management will be an advantage.
1. Key Role
The Business Development Manager will be responsible for identifying, developing, and converting new business opportunities for the company across engineering, construction, EPC, infrastructure, industrial, commercial, and other targeted segments.
The role will own the business development cycle from market identification and lead generation through client engagement, opportunity qualification, tendering, proposal development, commercial negotiation, order closure, and handover to the execution team.
The ideal candidate should have strong industry relationships, commercial acumen, technical understanding, negotiation skills, and a proven ability to generate and close high-value projects.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Business Development & Lead Generation
Identify new business opportunities across targeted engineering and construction sectors.
Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of upcoming projects.
Identify projects at the concept, design, pre-tender, tender, and execution stages.
Develop relationships with developers, contractors, consultants, architects, PMCs, government bodies, PSUs, and corporate clients.
Generate leads through industry networking, referrals, market intelligence, meetings, exhibitions, conferences, and digital channels.
Identify opportunities for new customers, new sectors, and geographical expansion.
Convert qualified leads into RFQs, RFPs, tenders, and commercial opportunities.
B. Client & Relationship Management
Build strong relationships with key decision-makers, including:
Promoters / Developers
Project Directors
Procurement Heads
Consultants
Architects
PMC representatives
Engineering Heads
Commercial Heads
Government / PSU officials
Conduct regular client meetings and presentations.
Understand client requirements, project budgets, timelines, and procurement processes.
Develop long-term relationships to generate repeat and referral business.
Maintain regular follow-up with prospective and existing customers.
C. Tender & Bid Management
Track and evaluate relevant tenders, RFQs, RFPs, EOI and pre-qualification opportunities.
Analyse tender documents, scope of work, eligibility requirements, technical specifications, BOQs, commercial conditions, and timelines.
Coordinate with Engineering, Estimation, Procurement, Finance, Legal,
and Operations teams for bid preparation.
Participate in pre-bid meetings and client clarification meetings.
Coordinate preparation of technical and commercial proposals.
Support management in Go / No-Go decisions based on project attractiveness, capability, competition, risk, and profitability.
Ensure timely and compliant submission of bids.
Track tender status from submission through technical evaluation, commercial negotiation, and award.
D. Commercial Negotiation & Order Closure
Lead commercial discussions with clients and procurement teams.
Negotiate pricing, payment terms, scope, delivery schedules, warranties, and contractual conditions.
Work closely with management to protect project margins and commercial interests.
Follow up on technical and commercial clarifications.
Drive opportunities through negotiation to Letter of Intent / Work Order / Purchase Order / Contract.
Maintain accurate sales forecasts and probability of closure.
E. Market Intelligence
Monitor construction and engineering industry trends.
Track upcoming infrastructure, industrial, commercial, residential, institutional, and government projects.
Monitor competitor activities, pricing, capabilities, and market positioning.
Develop project and client intelligence to identify opportunities at an early stage.
Provide management with regular insights on market opportunities and risks.
F. Strategic Partnerships
Identify potential partners, subcontractors, consultants, technology providers, and JV/consortium opportunities.
Develop strategic relationships that can improve the company's ability to qualify and win projects.
Explore new business models, sectors, and geographic markets.
G. Internal Coordination & Project Handover
Coordinate closely with Engineering, Estimation, Contracts, Finance, Procurement, and Project Execution teams.
Ensure that commercial and technical commitments made during the sales process are clearly communicated to the execution team.
Support project kick-off and smooth transition from Business Development to Project Execution.
Remain engaged with key clients during project execution to support relationship management and identify additional opportunities.
H. Reporting & CRM
Maintain an updated opportunity and client database.
Maintain a structured sales funnel covering:
Lead Qualified Opportunity RFQ/Tender Proposal Negotiation Order
Prepare weekly/monthly business development reports.
Provide accurate sales forecasts and expected order-book projections.
Maintain records of client meetings, opportunities, tender status, competitors, and win/loss analysis.
3. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Number and value of opportunities developed
RFQs / tenders secured
Proposal conversion rate
Order booking value
Revenue generated
Gross margin / contribution from secured projects

4. Required Skills & Competencies
Technical / Commercial
Good understanding of engineering and construction projects.
Knowledge of EPC / turnkey project lifecycle.
Understanding of tendering and bidding processes.
Ability to understand technical specifications, drawings, BOQs, and scope documents.
Strong commercial and financial understanding.
Ability to evaluate project viability and profitability.
Understanding of contract and payment terms.

Proven project acquisition and order-closing skills.

The ideal candidate should have:
5–10 years of proven B2B Business Development experience in Engineering, Construction, EPC, or Infrastructure.
An established network of developers, contractors, consultants, PMCs, architects, corporates, or government/PSU clients.
Demonstrated experience in winning construction/engineering projects.
Experience handling the complete sales cycle from opportunity identification to order closure.
Strong exposure to tendering, proposal preparation, and techno-commercial negotiations.
Ability to independently build and manage a sizeable project pipeline.
Willingness to travel extensively.
