Job Summary
We are looking for a Manager, Cloud Platform Engineering to guide our Cloud Platform Engineering team. Our Cloud Platform team brings together engineers who care about reliable, secure and well-automated infrastructure, all working toward a common mission: giving product and engineering teams a solid, self-service foundation to build on.
In this role, youll stay close to the work while guiding the team around it, hands-on with the architecture and technical direction of our cloud infrastructure, built on AWS and Azure with Kubernetes (EKS and AKS) as the core platform. Youll spend most of your time on design, architecture and complex technical problems, earning the teams trust through the work itself rather than managing from a distance.
Our platform runs around the clock and so does the team behind it. On-call coverage moves naturally across time zones as the day progresses. Youll take part in that rotation and should expect to step in over a weekend occasionally.
This is a high-impact position for a senior technical engineer ready to take on their first (or an early) mentorship role, one that stays grounded in hands-on infrastructure work rather than pulling them away from it.
Your responsibilities
Cloud Architecture Technical Direction
- Own the technical strategy and architecture for the teams cloud infrastructure across compute, storage, networking and security, spanning both AWS and Azure.
- Own the architecture and standards for our Kubernetes platform (EKS and AKS), including autoscaling (Karpenter/Cluster Autoscaler, KEDA/HPA), cluster networking (CNI, ingress, workload identity) and policy-as-code (Kyverno/OPA).
- Define and evolve cloud architecture standards and reference implementations and align the platform roadmap with broader business goals.
- Set and enforce standards for infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform), CI/CD (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions) and GitOps-based deployments (Helm, Flux, ArgoCD).
- Set direction for serverless and event-driven workloads (e.g., AWS Lambda, Azure Functions, EventBridge/Event Grid, SQS/Service Bus) alongside the core Kubernetes platform.
- Build DevSecOps practices into the teams workflow, ensuring security scanning and policy checks are part of CI/CD pipelines across the team.
- Own disaster recovery strategy for the platform, including backup and restore testing and recovery validation.
- Use AI-assisted tooling within your own workflow, encourage its adoption across the team and support developers org-wide in using AI tools effectively.
- Stay hands-on with the platform, contributing directly to design reviews, architecture decisions and complex technical problems.
- Drive decisions on cost optimization, capacity planning and cloud vendor strategy.
- Own security and compliance posture for the platform, ensuring controls meet financial services regulatory expectations (e.g., SOC 2, ISO 27001).
Technical Mentorship Team Growth
- Stay close to the work as a hands-on technical lead, unblocking engineers on hard problems while supporting their performance and career growth.
- Ensure the team helps developers across the organization onboard to platform tooling, troubleshoot issues, get support and get their infrastructure-related PRs reviewed.
- Build and maintain a healthy on-call culture, including incident response practices, blameless postmortems and occasional weekend coverage.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with product engineering, security and other platform teams to align on infrastructure needs and priorities.
- Represent the Cloud Platform Engineering team in broader engineering planning and technical governance discussions.
- Communicate platform roadmap, risks and trade-offs clearly to engineering leadership and stakeholders.
Your profile
Required Skills
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- 7-9 years of professional experience in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or DevOps, including deep hands-on work with both AWS and Azure.
- 1-2 years of experience managing or leading engineers, ideally within an infrastructure or platform engineering team.
- Strong track record running production workloads on Kubernetes, ideally EKS and/or AKS, including autoscaling (Karpenter/Cluster Autoscaler, KEDA/HPA), networking (CNI, ingress, workload identity) and policy-as-code (Kyverno/OPA).
- Strong track record with infrastructure-as-code (particularly Terraform), containerization and orchestration.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD tooling, particularly Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Actions.
- Experience with GitOps workflows and tools such as Helm, Flux, or ArgoCD for Kubernetes deployments.
- Solid understanding of cloud security, networking and cost management practices, including compliance requirements in a regulated financial services environment.
- Experience setting technical direction and standards across a team.
- Robust communication skills, with the ability to translate technical trade-offs for both engineers and leadership.
- Cloud certification preferred (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, CKA, CKS).
Nice to Have
- Experience with observability tooling such as Grafana, Prometheus, or OpenTelemetry.
