Scope of Work – AI-Assisted Sheet Metal Designer / AI Prompter
1. Position Title: AI-Assisted Sheet Metal Designer / AI Prompter 2. Department: Engineering & Design / Production Engineering 3. Position Purpose The AI-Assisted Sheet Metal Designer is responsible for developing, modifying, optimizing, and documenting sheet-metal products and components using CAD software, manufacturing knowledge, and AI-based engineering and design tools. The position will combine traditional sheet-metal design skills with AI prompting and automation capabilities to improve design speed, accuracy, manufacturability, material utilization, and engineering documentation. The designer shall work closely with Engineering, Production, CNC/Laser, Fabrication, Purchasing, Quality Control, and Estimation departments.
4. Main Responsibilities
A. Sheet Metal Design • Design sheet-metal components and assemblies according to project requirements. • Prepare 2D drawings and 3D models using appropriate CAD software. • Develop:
o Flat patterns o Bend layouts o Assembly drawings o Fabrication drawings o Cutting drawings o Installation drawings o Bill of Materials (BOM) • Select appropriate material thickness, grades, profiles, and construction methods. • Design components suitable for laser cutting, CNC punching, CNC bending, rolling, welding, grinding, and assembly. • Consider bend allowances, K-factors, bend radii, hole clearances, tolerances, weld access, and assembly requirements. B. AI Prompting and AI-Assisted Engineering • Develop effective AI prompts for engineering and sheet-metal design applications. • Use AI to assist with: o Design concepts o Design optimization o Material selection o Manufacturing methods o Design calculations o BOM generation o Cost estimation o Design checking o Technical specifications o Drawing notes o Quality-control checklists o Manufacturing instructions • Develop reusable AI prompt libraries for MFF's common products and manufacturing processes. • Use AI to identi
