Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced and result-oriented Lab Coordinator / Lab Operations Manager to manage the day-to-day operational functioning of the hospital laboratory.

This is primarily an operations and coordination role, not a technical laboratory position. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring smooth workflow, timely processing and reporting, effective manpower utilization, coordination between departments, TAT adherence, patient service, and overall operational excellence of the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

- Oversee the day-to-day operational activities of the laboratory.
- Ensure smooth workflow from patient registration and sample collection to processing and report delivery.
- Monitor and improve Turnaround Time (TAT) for laboratory investigations.
- Track pending, delayed, and critical reports and ensure timely resolution.
- Coordinate with laboratory technical teams, doctors, nursing, OPD, IPD, emergency, billing, and other departments.
- Ensure proper coordination between sample collection points, laboratory sections, and report distribution.
- Monitor manpower deployment, duty rosters, shift coverage, attendance, and workload.
- Ensure adequate staffing during peak hours and emergency requirements.
- Monitor daily workload, sample volume, pending cases, TAT performance, and operational productivity.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain daily/weekly/monthly laboratory operational MIS and performance reports.




- Monitor patient waiting time and ensure a smooth and patient-friendly laboratory experience.
- Handle patient/attendant complaints and operational escalations related to laboratory services.
- Coordinate with vendors and support teams for operational requirements, consumables, equipment service coordination, and other non-technical requirements.
- Ensure proper coordination for outsourced/reference laboratory tests and timely receipt of reports.
- Monitor communication and escalation mechanisms for critical and delayed reports.
- Work closely with the technical/medical team to ensure that operational issues do not affect service delivery.
- Ensure compliance with hospital SOPs, quality processes, documentation requirements, and NABH standards.
- Conduct regular operational rounds and identify gaps in workflow, manpower, service delivery, and patient experience.
- Drive process improvement, efficiency, productivity, and cost optimization within laboratory operations.
- Prepare and present operational performance updates to management.
- Ensure effective coordination during high patient load, emergency cases, and peak operational hours.

Candidate Requirements

- Graduate/Postgraduate in Hospital Management, Healthcare Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field.
- 5–7 years of experience in hospital, diagnostic centre, laboratory operations, or healthcare operations.
- Candidates with strong hospital operations/diagnostic centre coordination experience will be preferred.
- Technical laboratory qualification is not mandatory, as this is an operations-focused position.
- Robust understanding of healthcare workflow and departmental coordination.
- Good knowledge of TAT monitoring, MIS, manpower planning, and operational reporting.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and HIMS/LIS.
- Strong leadership, communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple operational priorities.
- Experience in NABH-accredited hospitals/diagnostic centres will be an advantage.
