The Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience lab at GITAM Deemed to be University (Visakhapatnam) has an open position for a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) to investigate the role of S-acylation (palmitoylation) of synaptic proteins in regulating neuronal hyperexcitability. This project is funded by DBT Emerging Frontiers in Biomedical Research grant scheme and focuses on establishing the role of dynamic S-acylation (palmitoylation) of postsynaptic scaffold protein, PSD-95, in mediating neuronal hyperexcitability in an epilepsy model. The research will combine cellular, molecular and electrophysiological approaches to identify fundamental mechanisms in synapse biology with potential translational outcomes.

Requirements

§ Strong academic record with M.Sc. or equivalent in neuroscience, zoology or any related field of biological sciences with CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship or GATE or any other National level/Central Agency equivalent exam qualified

§ Previous research experience (1-2 years) in wet labs related to cellular and molecular biology is essential

§ Good communication skills (in English), both written and verbal

§ Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment

§ Hands-on experience with cellular and molecular techniques,



including electrophysiology, and rodent handling will be a plus

Position overview

§ Fully funded JRF position for 2 years (INR 37,000 + 18% HRA monthly) for CSIR NET including lectureship or GATE or any other National level PhD entrance exam qualified candidates (as per DBT/DST regulations)

§ Training in rat primary neuronal cultures, extracellular electrophysiology, molecular and biochemical techniques
