Role & responsibilities
Procurement
- End-to-end purchasing Procure all factory raw materials, packing materials and consumables, from requirement planning and sourcing to purchase order, delivery and closure.
- Obtain and compare quotations, negotiate pricing and terms, and place purchase orders on time and at the best value.
- Track orders and deliveries to ensure materials arrive on schedule and to specification.
Supplier Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong, reliable relationships with suppliers and vendors across the material base.
- Develop alternate and backup sources to secure supply continuity and improve commercial terms.
- Evaluate supplier performance on quality, price, delivery and reliability, and resolve supply issues promptly.
Material Availability & Shortage Prevention
- Zero-shortage assurance Ensure no factory faces a shortage of any material at any point, by planning ahead against consumption, lead times and reorder levels.
- Coordinate closely with all factories and stores to anticipate requirements and align procurement with production plans.
- Monitor critical and long-lead items and act early to prevent stock-outs.
Stock Visibility & Reporting
- Live stock details — Maintain accurate, up-to-date stock details across materials and locations, and have them ready at all times for factories and management.
- Non-moving stock flagging — Identify and flag slow-moving and non-moving items to the factory and management, so that action can be taken to consume, return or liquidate them.
- Prepare periodic procurement and inventory reports — purchase status, stock position, ageing and consumption — for management review.
- Maintain purchase records, supplier data, rate contracts and documentation in an organised, auditable manner.
Preferred candidate profile
- Graduate (B.Com / B.Sc / B.E.); an MBA / PG in Materials Management or Supply Chain is an advantage.
- 5–10 years of procurement / purchase experience, preferably in a manufacturing setting (paints, chemicals or process industry a plus).
- Strong knowledge of raw material and packing material procurement, sourcing and vendor negotiation.
- Solid understanding of inventory control, reorder planning, lead times and stock management.
- Strong MS Excel and ERP skills — comfortable maintaining stock data, reports and purchase records (Tally, SAP or similar).
- Well organised, proactive and dependable, with a sharp eye for detail and follow-through.
- Good communication and negotiation skills, and the ability to coordinate across factories and suppliers.
- High integrity in handling vendors, pricing and confidential commercial information.
